Jadon Sancho’s huge wage demands stall Manchester United exit

Juventus and Borussia Dortmund remain in the race for Sancho, but his £250k-a-week wage demands are proving a major stumbling block.

Jadon Sancho is still a Manchester United player — and looks set to stay that way unless the club meet his staggering demands to leave this summer.

The 25-year-old spent last season on loan at Chelsea, playing a key role in their Conference League final win over Real Betis and making 41 appearances under Enzo Maresca. However, Chelsea opted against a permanent deal, paying a £5m penalty fee to United for not activating their purchase option.

Since returning to Old Trafford, Sancho has been placed in Ruben Amorim’s ‘bomb squad’, training separately from the first team. He has made it clear that he will only move on his terms — keeping his current £250,000-a-week wage and demanding United cover any shortfall if a new club pays him less.

United’s Dilemma

According to journalist Graeme Bailey (United In Focus), Juventus and former club Borussia Dortmund are both interested. Juve’s move could progress once Nico Gonzalez is sold, while Dortmund have held talks with Sancho’s camp.

But in both cases, United would likely have to subsidise his wages — something the club are unwilling to do beyond a small contribution. Sancho, meanwhile, is reportedly prepared to sit out until January or longer unless he gets the deal he wants.

Besiktas Interest

Besiktas have also been linked, with fans flooding Sancho’s Instagram with pleas to join. Club president Serdal Adaliconfirmed his interest but admitted the deal would be “tricky” within their budget.

"I want him too," Adali told Turkiye Today. “If it is possible, we will get him. But players like Jadon Sancho usually prefer clubs playing in the Champions League.”

Jadon Sancho – 2024/25 Stats (Chelsea)

Stat (2024/25) Jadon Sancho
Appearances 41
Goals 7
Assists 9
Pass Accuracy 85%

Summary: Sancho contributed 7 goals and 9 assists in 41 matches for Chelsea, maintaining an 85% pass accuracy. Despite his output, the Blues opted not to commit to a long-term deal.

Analyst Verdict

Sancho’s refusal to take a wage cut is the central roadblock. While his talent remains clear, his form has fluctuated in recent seasons, making clubs hesitant to commit to both a transfer fee and his full salary.

A compromise — such as a loan with a partial wage subsidy — could be the only realistic way for Juventus, Dortmund, or Besiktas to secure him before the window shuts.

Key Insights

  • Sancho earns £250k/week and wants United to cover any wage shortfall.
  • Juventus, Dortmund, and Besiktas interested but cautious.
  • Player willing to sit out until January if terms aren’t met.
  • Chelsea opted against permanent deal after 2024/25 loan.

What’s Next

The final weeks of the window will determine if United soften their stance on subsidising wages. Juventus could make a formal move once Gonzalez is sold, while Dortmund may step in late if they can shift players first.

If no agreement is reached, Sancho could be frozen out at Old Trafford until the January window — a costly stalemate for all parties.

Should Manchester United pay part of Sancho’s wages just to get him out — or hold firm until he compromises?
