Jadon Sancho has made his feelings clear about life at Aston Villa after Manchester United decided not to retain him beyond this summer.
The 25-year-old winger, currently on loan at Villa Park, says he is “happy” under Unai Emery and believes the manager’s backing has helped restore his confidence following a turbulent spell at Old Trafford.
Jadon Sancho responds after Man United transfer decision
Manchester United have reportedly chosen not to extend Sancho’s stay, with his contract set to expire at the end of June 2026. The winger joined United for £73m from Borussia Dortmund in 2021 but struggled to establish consistency.
After loan spells at Borussia Dortmund, Chelsea and now Aston Villa, the Red Devils appear ready to allow him to leave permanently.
Sancho, however, is focused on the present.
“When you have a manager that backs you, you go into training with a lot more confidence, and obviously matchdays,” he told Villa’s official website.
“So, I'm just happy that I'm playing, and hopefully I can help the team throughout the season.”
Aston Villa form and Emery backing
Sancho has started Villa’s last five Premier League fixtures, reflecting Emery’s renewed faith in him.
While his numbers remain modest, one goal and one assist in 25 appearances, there are signs of improvement in recent weeks.

Ahead of Villa’s fixture against Leeds United on 21 February 2026, Sancho also emphasised his connection with supporters.
“I love playing in front of the home fans. They get behind us a lot, and they support us to the end.”
From covering Villa’s recent matches, his movement has been sharper and decision-making more direct, though consistency remains the next step.
Emery leaves door open
Unai Emery has hinted that a permanent move is possible, but stopped short of confirmation.
“He will need another contract, and maybe it could be here,” Emery said recently.
“If he plays his best football, we will want him. But also other teams could be involved.”
However, the manager acknowledged that the first half of the season “was not enough”.
