Harrison set for Leeds return as Fiorentina rule out deal

Jack Harrison’s future is once again pointing back towards Leeds United, with reports in Italy suggesting Fiorentina are increasingly unlikely to make his loan move permanent.

The winger joined the Serie A side in January 2026 with an option to buy set at around €7 million, but his time in Florence has not gone as planned. As the season progresses, indications are growing that the deal will not be extended beyond the current campaign.

According to Corriere dello Sport, Fiorentina have already begun planning their summer business and Harrison does not feature prominently in those plans.

Despite arriving as a solution to their attacking needs, the 29-year-old has struggled to make a consistent impact. He has started four matches and made additional appearances from the bench, but his performances have not matched expectations.

The report suggests there is now “very little chance” of the club activating the purchase option, even though the fee is relatively modest.

Harrison showed early signs of promise after his arrival, but that momentum has not been sustained. Fiorentina had hoped he would bring energy and attacking output, particularly during a challenging period in their season.

From the last few weeks of Fiorentina’s campaign, his influence has been limited, with competition for places and tactical demands in Serie A proving difficult to navigate.

Having followed players making similar transitions, adapting from the Premier League to Italian football can be challenging, especially for wide players whose game relies heavily on intensity and direct running.

Another factor influencing Fiorentina’s stance is the overall cost of the deal. While the transfer fee is manageable, Harrison’s wages are considered high relative to his current output.

Reports indicate that Fabio Paratici, who played a role in bringing the player to the club, has not been convinced by his performances either. This has further reduced the likelihood of a permanent agreement.

However, it remains too early to completely rule out a late change, particularly if Harrison produces a strong finish to the season.

A return to Elland Road now appears the most likely outcome, with Leeds set to reassess the player’s future in the summer.

Having followed Leeds United closely in recent years, Harrison’s best performances came under Marcelo Bielsa, where his work rate and ability to cover ground were key assets. Those qualities are often better suited to the pace and physical demands of English football.

Harrison is expected to remain part of Fiorentina’s squad for the remainder of the season, with opportunities still available to improve his form. A strong run of performances could yet alter perceptions, although the current outlook suggests a return to Leeds.

Leeds United will then need to decide whether to reintegrate him into their squad or explore transfer options. Interest from English clubs could emerge, particularly given his previous Premier League experience.
