Ipswich Town goalkeeper Kayne van Oevelen could be handed an opportunity to establish himself as Valencia's first choice following the appointment of Javier Aguirre.
The 23-year-old joined Ipswich from FC Volendam in July before moving to Valencia on loan in August, but has yet to make his competitive debut for the Spanish club.
According to Las Provincias, Aguirre has been impressed by Van Oevelen during the international break, potentially opening the door for a change in goal.
Valencia manager impressed by Ipswich loanee
Van Oevelen has remained behind Stole Dimitrievski in Valencia's goalkeeping hierarchy since arriving at Mestalla.
However, Aguirre's appointment following Carlos Corberán's departure on 13 September could change his situation.
The Dutch goalkeeper trained under the new manager throughout the international break and reportedly made a positive impression.
Dimitrievski, meanwhile, was away representing North Macedonia, conceding 10 goals across four defeats.
The 32-year-old has also conceded 13 goals in seven appearances for Valencia this season, increasing scrutiny of his position.
Las Provincias suggests those circumstances could encourage Aguirre to consider Van Oevelen as an alternative.
October debut could open door to starting role
Van Oevelen is reportedly in contention to make his Valencia debut against Tavernes on 28 October.
A convincing performance could strengthen his case for regular selection, particularly if Dimitrievski continues to struggle.
Las Provincias believes Aguirre could make a goalkeeping change as part of his efforts to improve Valencia's results.
The newspaper states that it would not be surprising if the manager opted for a different goalkeeper while attempting to steer the club away from relegation trouble.
However, Van Oevelen has not yet been promised a starting position.
Ipswich could reconsider loan in January
Ipswich deliberately sent Van Oevelen to Valencia without a purchase option, wanting the goalkeeper to compete for first-team football rather than leave permanently.
Gary O'Neil's side will therefore be monitoring his development closely.
If regular opportunities fail to materialise, Ipswich could consider ending the loan in January and finding another destination.
For now, Aguirre's arrival has given Van Oevelen a fresh opportunity to prove himself.
