Liverpool forward Hugo Ekitike has heaped praise on one of his international teammates — and it happens to be a player the Reds tried to sign last summer.
Speaking to ESPN, the French striker described PSG winger Bradley Barcola as “crazy fast” and admitted that his raw pace and directness make him one of the most exciting young wide players in Europe.
Barcola, who was heavily linked with Liverpool before joining PSG from Lyon in 2023, went on to have a breakout 2024/25 campaign under Luis Enrique, winning both the Champions League and Ligue 1.
Why Liverpool were interested in Bradley Barcola
Liverpool reportedly explored a deal for Barcola in June as an alternative to Alexander Isak, but PSG refused to sell.
That decision proved wise — the 22-year-old finished last season with 40 goal contributions in all competitions, becoming a key figure for both club and country.
During ESPN’s “describe in one word” challenge, Ekitike was quick to call Barcola “crazy fast”, confirming what many scouts already know: his blistering acceleration is among Europe’s best.
He also referred to Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konaté as “brother”, showing the close bond within France’s setup.

Barcola’s numbers underline why Liverpool were so keen. A return of 40 goal involvements for a player under 23 is elite production. His acceleration and final-ball decision-making would have added another dimension to Arne Slot’s transitional attack.
Analysis – Our View
Ekitike’s comments hint at the level of respect Barcola commands among France’s next generation.
While Liverpool ultimately landed Isak, it’s easy to see why Arne Slot and Michael Edwards wanted the PSG winger: he fits their long-term recruitment model — young, explosive, and versatile.
Should PSG ever reconsider his future, Liverpool will almost certainly revisit that interest.
