Liverpool’s Harvey Elliott sends ‘Positive Signals’ to RB Leipzig over late transfer move

Harvey Elliott could yet leave Liverpool before the transfer window closes, with fresh reports from Germany claiming RB Leipzig are pushing to sign him as a late replacement for Xavi Simons.

According to Bild and Sky Deutschland, the 22-year-old has indicated he is open to the move, with journalist Philipp Hinze reporting Elliott has “sent positive signals” to Leipzig. However, the Bundesliga side are struggling to structure a deal given Liverpool’s valuation and are unwilling to pay what they describe as a “crazy sum.”

Elliott has played just one minute in the Premier League under new boss Arne Slot this season, fuelling speculation over his short-term future at Anfield.

RB Leipzig sold Xavi Simons to Tottenham earlier this summer and identified Elliott as a like-for-like creative replacement. Red Bull’s head of global sport Jürgen Klopp — Elliott’s former manager at Liverpool — is understood to have helped convince the player, making discussions smoother on the personal side.

Still, Liverpool are reluctant to let go of one of their brightest homegrown talents cheaply, leaving Leipzig with little time to bridge the gap before Monday night’s deadline.

Since making his Liverpool breakthrough under Klopp, Elliott has made more than 100 senior appearances, but his role has diminished this season under Slot. With Federico Chiesa, Curtis Jones and Dominik Szoboszlai competing for similar positions, Elliott has struggled for minutes — restricted to just a late cameo across Liverpool’s opening three league games.

The midfielder may now view Leipzig as an opportunity to kickstart his career in a league renowned for giving young attackers more freedom and responsibility.

FootballPlace analyst John William says Leipzig’s pursuit makes sense, but the deal is difficult:

“Elliott ticks all the boxes for Leipzig: age profile, technical ability, and the chance to grow into a key creator. But Liverpool have no incentive to sell late in the window unless the money is huge. Leipzig are right — it would take a crazy sum.”

He added: “From Elliott’s perspective, Leipzig would be an exciting move. He’d be trusted with minutes and responsibility, something he hasn’t had consistently under Slot. The fact he’s giving positive signals shows he’s tempted.”

The transfer window closes on Monday night, leaving Leipzig with little time to strike a deal. Unless Liverpool soften their stance or a creative loan-plus-option structure is agreed, Elliott may remain at Anfield until January.

For the player, his lack of game time makes the situation worth monitoring. If opportunities remain scarce after the international break, pressure could grow for a winter move.
