Guido Rodríguez wants to leave West Ham United in the January transfer window, with reports from Fussball Europa claiming the midfielder is “extremely unhappy” over his lack of playing time under Nuno Espirito Santo.

The Mexican international has endured a frustrating spell at the London Stadium since joining from Real Betis, and sources now suggest both player and club are open to parting ways in the new year.

West Ham Prepared to Sell in January

According to the German outlet, West Ham had already placed Rodríguez “on the chopping block” several weeks ago, having tried to offload him during the summer.
A move didn’t materialise, however, as interested clubs — including Fenerbahçe and several Brazilian sides — struggled to meet the financial demands of a deal.

Rodríguez’s €3 million-per-year salary has proven a stumbling block, with only a handful of clubs able or willing to match his wages.

Now, with the January window approaching and his contract set to expire next summer, the 30-year-old is reportedly ready to push for an exit — and West Ham may be forced to accept a reduced fee to avoid losing him for free.

Nuno Espirito Santo Makes Position Clear

The situation has become more definitive in recent weeks. Fussball Europa report that Nuno Espirito Santo has informed Rodríguez’s representatives that he is not part of his long-term plans, urging them to find “viable alternatives” ahead of January.

The West Ham boss has preferred a midfield pairing of Edson Álvarez and James Ward-Prowse, leaving Rodríguez with limited minutes so far this campaign.

That lack of involvement has caused growing frustration for the former Betis man, who was once a mainstay in Mexico’s national team setup and played a key role at the 2022 World Cup.

“Rodríguez has made it clear he wants to move on, and the manager has made it clear he won’t be standing in his way,” Fussball Europa explain. — Fussball Europa

West Ham’s Midfield Reshuffle Looming

Should Rodríguez depart, West Ham are expected to pursue a replacement in the winter market. The Hammers have been linked with several central midfielders across Europe, including younger, more dynamic profiles to fit Nuno’s tactical system.

Given the player’s contract situation, a cut-price deal in the region of €5–7 million could be enough to secure his signature.

Our View: A Move That Suits Everyone

In our view, this situation feels like a mutual parting waiting to happen. Rodríguez has the pedigree and experience to add value elsewhere, but West Ham’s evolution under Nuno requires fresher legs and tactical flexibility in midfield.

A January move would not only ease the club’s wage bill but also allow Rodríguez to rediscover regular football — potentially back in La Liga or Brazil.
