Graham Potter Previews Southampton Clash and Praises Ward-Prowse’s Leadership
West Ham manager Graham Potter addressed the media ahead of this weekend’s Premier League fixture against Southampton, offering updates on team news, player progress, and the club’s outlook heading into the final stretch of the season.

Team News and Injury Updates
Potter confirmed that Crysencio Summerville remains sidelined due to a complicated injury and is expected to be out for a few more weeks.
Meanwhile, Aaron Wan-Bissaka has received an injection to manage a toe issue but is likely to be available for selection. The rest of the squad is in good shape heading into Saturday’s game.

James Ward-Prowse: A Quiet Leader
The West Ham boss was full of praise for James Ward-Prowse, highlighting his consistent performances and influence within the squad.
“He trains like it’s the last day of his career,” Potter said. “He’s a role model, calm, humble, and leads by example every day.”
Ward-Prowse returned to the club in top condition following his loan spell and has become an integral part of the team’s environment.

Positive Team Spirit Despite Inconsistencies
Potter emphasized the positive atmosphere within the camp despite some inconsistent results.
“I’m frustrated for the players that we haven’t converted our daily work into consistent results,” he admitted. “The foundation is there, and it’s a work in progress.”
The manager noted that the players have shown great commitment and that the club is focused on building towards a strong finish to the season.

No Need for a Major Summer Rebuild
Addressing speculation about the summer transfer window, Potter ruled out the need for a significant overhaul.
“All teams look to improve. We’re not where we want to be, but we’re working to build a team the fans can be proud of.”

Focus on Home Form and Fan Support
Potter acknowledged that West Ham’s home form has been below expectations and stressed the importance of improving it.
“The supporters have been brilliant. We want to end the season strongly and turn recent good performances into points.”
He referenced the team’s impressive display at Liverpool as a foundation to build on in their remaining games.

Updates on Antonio and Füllkrug
Michail Antonio is making steady progress with his recovery and remains away from the group. Contract discussions remain private.
Meanwhile, Niclas Füllkrug continues to regain fitness after a long injury layoff, with Potter stating the striker is “getting stronger and building.”

On Facing Southampton
Potter expects a tough test against Southampton, despite contrasting league positions.
“It’s a different challenge to last weekend, but just as big,” he said. “We have to focus on ourselves and perform well.”
He also praised Saints management and confirmed familiarity with several members of their coaching team, including Adam Lallana, whom he described as having “all the tools to be a very good coach.”
