Oliver Glasner has been sensationally compared to Austrian coaching legend Ernst Happel after leading Crystal Palace to their first-ever major trophy in club history. The Eagles stunned Premier League champions Manchester City 1-0 at Wembley, with Eberechi Eze’s first-half strike securing the FA Cup in a historic 2025 final.

Sky Austria pundit Alfred Tatar believes the magnitude of Glasner’s achievement not only elevates his status in English football but also places him firmly in the conversation with Austria’s all-time great managers.

Glasner’s Trophy Trail: From LASK to London Glory

Before arriving at Selhurst Park, Glasner’s coaching journey began at SV Ried and rose to prominence at LASK, where he guided them from Austria’s second division to Bundesliga contention. He further cemented his reputation with a UEFA Europa League triumph at Eintracht Frankfurt in 2022.

Now, his FA Cup win with Crystal Palace—just a season after rescuing them from relegation—has added another feather to his cap.

“The successes that Oliver Glasner celebrated with his two companions are unique. In my opinion, he has followed in Ernst Happel’s footsteps.” — Alfred Tatar, Sky Austria

The Team Behind the Manager

Tatar credits not just Glasner, but also his trusted assistants Michael Angerschmid and Ronald Brunmayr. The trio have worked closely together across clubs, and their cohesion has been instrumental in Glasner’s seamless transition to Premier League football.

“When you’re abroad, you need people you feel comfortable with,” said Tatar. “They’ve stayed united through every challenge.”
