Oliver Glasner’s stock continues to rise after guiding Crystal Palace to an 18-game unbeaten run and back-to-back trophies. With his side sitting third in the Premier League, it is little wonder the Austrian tactician is now being linked with the Manchester United job.

Austrian media asks Oliver Glasner about Manchester United job – Doesn’t rule out opportunity — captures the intrigue perfectly. Asked directly by Austrian outlet Kicker about the rumours connecting him with United, Glasner kept his answer deliberately neutral. “I follow all the rumours – and that’s all there is – neutrally and completely relaxed,” he explained. “Focusing on the daily work with my players and coaches, and trying to enjoy it as much as possible.”

That response has only fuelled speculation. With Ruben Amorim struggling at Old Trafford, and United publicly insisting on “patience” despite mounting criticism, Glasner’s name has naturally surfaced. The Palace manager is out of contract at the end of the season, and while renewal talks appear slow, links with one of football’s biggest clubs will only enhance his bargaining position.

The Austrian coach was previously courted by Bayern Munich before Vincent Kompany was appointed, underlining the esteem in which he is held across Europe. Now, with Palace flying and United wobbling, his future is once again under the microscope.

The Kicker interview was striking for its directness. Glasner was asked outright whether Manchester United’s interest annoyed or amused him, and if there was a timeline for fresh talks with Palace. He sidestepped the contract element and refused to close the door on Old Trafford.

Manchester United’s managerial uncertainty

United’s faith in Amorim is being tested as inconsistent results keep them off the pace in the Premier League and Europe. While senior figures preach stability, whispers of contingency planning are inevitable. Glasner’s success at Palace — blending defensive organisation with attacking verve — makes him a logical candidate.

For Palace fans, the concern will be that his contract runs down without resolution. The club’s hierarchy are keen to reward his achievements, but the lure of Old Trafford could be difficult to resist if a vacancy arises.

Ehe unbeaten run and silverware underline his impact. Palace are no longer relegation battlers but genuine European contenders under Glasner.

Analyst verdict – John William

FootballPlace analyst John William believes Glasner’s rise makes United speculation inevitable. “Glasner has transformed Palace into one of the most resilient and entertaining sides in the league. For Manchester United, who desperately need stability and identity, his name makes sense. His refusal to rule it out is pragmatic — why close doors in football?”

He added: “From Palace’s perspective, they need to move quickly on renewal talks. Otherwise, they risk losing the best manager they’ve had in decades to a heavyweight rival.”

Key insights

  • Oliver Glasner asked directly about Manchester United links in Austrian media.
  • He refused to rule it out, keeping his answer deliberately neutral.
  • Palace sit third in the Premier League and are 18 games unbeaten.
  • Glasner is out of contract at the end of the season with no renewal confirmed.
  • United’s patience with Ruben Amorim is wearing thin amid poor results.

What’s next for Glasner and Palace?

Crystal Palace return to action against Everton on 5 October, followed by a Europa League clash with Dynamo Kyiv. Each positive result further cements Glasner’s status as one of the most in-demand managers in Europe.

For United, the timing of Amorim’s future may prove decisive. If results continue to slide, the club’s hierarchy could accelerate their search for alternatives. Glasner’s refusal to close the door ensures he will remain firmly in the frame.

Same system, same story with Bruno. How would this workout? That United squad I think its not good for the systeem that both Amorim as Glasner plays.
