Gabriel Gudmundsson has admitted it's flattering to be linked with Chelsea but insists he remains fully committed to Leeds United following an impressive debut season at Elland Road.

The Sweden international has emerged as one of the names reportedly being considered by Chelsea as they search for a new left-back following Marc Cucurella's move to Real Madrid. While no formal approach has been made, Gudmundsson has now addressed the speculation for a second time this summer.

Gudmundsson keeps the door open

Asked about Chelsea's reported interest, the 27-year-old made it clear he has not spent much time thinking about his future.

Instead, he says the last few months have been dominated by Leeds' campaign, international duty with Sweden and becoming a father.

"I haven't had a focus on it because there has been so much with Leeds, the World Cup and then I have become a father now so I have really zoned out from that part of football.

But it's nice that they see me as an alternative and it's a sign that something good has been done. Then we'll see what happens, but I'm happy where I am."

His comments echo those he made earlier this summer, when he described the reported Chelsea interest as recognition that he was "doing something right."

While Gudmundsson has not ruled out a future move, there is nothing to suggest negotiations are underway, with Chelsea yet to make a concrete move.

Leeds defender praises Elland Road atmosphere

Gudmundsson joined Leeds from Lille last summer and quickly established himself as Daniel Farke's first-choice left-back, making 35 league appearances during the 2025/26 campaign.

Looking back on his first year in West Yorkshire, the defender spoke warmly about both the club and its supporters.

"Everything is so professional. We have enjoyed ourselves since the first second we got there so we are very happy with the choice and are looking forward to what is to come.

Hand on heart I can say that the Leeds fans are the best in England and they have supported us in a really good way this season. I don't think you understand how big the club is until you are in it."

Those comments are unlikely to do any harm with Leeds supporters, especially as transfer speculation continues to gather pace ahead of the new season.

Chelsea continue assessing left-back options

Chelsea remain in the market for reinforcements following Cucurella's departure, and Gudmundsson's consistent performances have understandably attracted attention.

However, Leeds are under no obvious pressure to sell a player who became an important part of Farke's side last season, meaning any deal would likely require a significant offer before the Yorkshire club consider negotiations.

For now, Gudmundsson's focus appears unchanged. He is enjoying life at Leeds, appreciates the recognition from one of England's biggest clubs, and is leaving any transfer discussions to develop in their own time.

Do you think Leeds should do everything possible to keep Gabriel Gudmundsson, or would a big Chelsea offer be too good to refuse?
