Fulham’s pursuit of Ricardo Pepi has hit a firm roadblock after PSV Eindhoven publicly confirmed the size of the Premier League club’s bid and reiterated their stance against a winter sale.
The London side have been active in the January market as Marco Silva looks to strengthen his attacking options, with Pepi emerging as a key target. However, PSV have made it clear they are unwilling to negotiate midway through the season.
PSV confirm Fulham bid amount
PSV general manager Marcel Brands confirmed Fulham’s offer while appearing on ESPN’s Goedemorgen Eredivisie, shutting down speculation around the figures involved.
When asked directly whether Fulham had bid €30m for the striker, Brands replied:
“No, €25m.”
Brands was unequivocal about the club’s position.
“We don’t want to sell anyone in the winter,” he said.
“There’s no financial need for it, and we want to become champions. That’s the most important thing.”
Technical director Earnest Stewart had already confirmed last week that Fulham’s approach was rejected, while Dutch reports have since suggested PSV would only consider offers closer to €45m.
January deal effectively ruled out
Brands also outlined what it would take for PSV to even consider a sale during the winter window — and made clear how unlikely that scenario is.
“In the winter, it’s a no,” he explained.
“Unless something really exorbitant comes along that forces you to think. Even then, it would depend on finding a replacement.”
The message to Fulham is clear: any serious negotiations would be more realistic in the summer rather than January.
Injury blow complicates situation further
Any remaining hope of a January breakthrough appears to have been extinguished by Pepi’s latest injury setback.
The United States international scored his 11th goal of the season in PSV’s 5-1 win over Excelsior Rotterdam on Saturday, but was forced off just minutes later.
According to Eindhovens Dagblad, Pepi underwent surgery on Sunday and is expected to be sidelined for around seven weeks.
That development makes a winter move virtually impossible and is likely to push Fulham’s interest firmly towards the summer transfer window.
