Fenerbahce have made their move for Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur, submitting a €15m bid as Jose Mourinho pushes for reinforcements in the middle of the park. Turkish outlet Sabah report that the Super Lig side are serious about landing the Uruguay international, but Spurs are holding out for €25m.
Negotiations are ongoing, with Fenerbahce still weighing up whether to raise their offer. Mourinho has prioritised an experienced midfielder all summer, with links to Aston Villa’s Youri Tielemans also resurfacing, though Bentancur is now seen as the more realistic target.
Tottenham’s acquisition of João Palhinha from Bayern Munich earlier this window has raised questions about midfield competition under Thomas Frank, potentially making Bentancur available at the right price. Still, with two years left on his deal, Spurs retain the upper hand in talks.
Why Mourinho Wants Bentancur
Since taking charge in Istanbul, Mourinho has made it clear that his squad requires leadership and technical security in midfield. Bentancur, with his blend of ball-winning and forward passing, fits that profile.
The Uruguayan has Premier League and Champions League experience and could offer Fenerbahce the balance Mourinho is seeking as they prepare for a Super Lig title challenge and European football.
What the Reports Say
“Fenerbahce have submitted an offer of €15m for Tottenham’s Rodrigo Bentancur, but Spurs want closer to €25m. Negotiations remain ongoing.” — Sabah, Turkey
The gap in valuation highlights the challenge for Fenerbahce: Spurs are open to selling but only at their price, while Mourinho is pressing for urgency before the window closes.
Rodrigo Bentancur 2024/25 Season Stats
| Stat (2024/25) | Bentancur |
|---|---|
| Appearances | 44 |
| Goals | 2 |
| Assists | 1 |
| Pass Accuracy | 89% |
Bentancur featured 44 times across all competitions for Spurs last season, scoring twice and registering one assist. His 89% pass accuracy highlights his value as a reliable distributor in central areas.
Analyst Verdict
From reviewing his last campaign, Bentancur remains one of Spurs’ most composed midfielders when fit. His ability to link defence to attack is a trait Mourinho craves in Istanbul.
However, with Palhinha and Bissouma both in Frank’s plans, Bentancur’s role could diminish at Spurs. Fenerbahce’s pursuit therefore looks timely, though the fee remains the sticking point.
Key Insights
- Fenerbahce table €15m offer for Bentancur.
- Spurs want €25m — talks ongoing.
- Mourinho pushing for midfield reinforcements.
- Youri Tielemans remains a secondary option.
- Bentancur made 44 appearances last season, contract until 2026.
What’s Next
The two clubs are expected to continue talks this week. If Fenerbahce increase their bid closer to €25m, Spurs may sanction the deal. Mourinho, however, cannot afford to wait much longer, with the Turkish season already underway.
For Tottenham, the decision may hinge on their confidence in Palhinha and the rest of their midfield depth. If Bentancur stays, he could still play a key squad role in domestic and European campaigns.
Should Tottenham cash in on Bentancur now — or keep him as midfield depth for the season ahead?

Mate, thats way too cheap. Dont trust these Turkish outlets - but I do believe that Mourinho wants either Bissouma or Bentancur, unfortunately I dont see Spurs selling Bentancur for that cheap in this market right now.
