Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk has taken a major step in his bid to overturn a provisional doping suspension—he passed a lie detector test designed to prove he never knowingly ingested the banned substance Meldonium. The 23‑year‑old, whose last appearance for the Blues came in November, insists the positive result was caused by a contaminated supplement.
According to Shakhtar Donetsk chief executive Sergei Palkin, Mudryk remains baffled by the findings and is sparing no effort to vindicate himself. Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Palkin explained how the lie detector results will bolster Mudryk’s defence:
“I have spoken to Mudryk many times since this doping issue arose,” Palkin said. “He doesn’t understand how it could have happened. He has no clue at all. “His lawyers organised for him to take a lie detector test, which he passed. Mudryk faces up to a four‑year ban unless he can demonstrate that there was no deliberate wrongdoing. The former Shakhtar star’s latest social‑media post—a simple tear emoji under a tribute to his match‑winning derby performance—highlighted the emotional strain he’s under.
Palkin emphasised the stakes for all parties involved:
“Shakhtar also has a vested interest. There are bonuses from his move to Chelsea linked to his performances. If he’s not playing, it causes problems for us because we could potentially lose €30 million. “So Shakhtar, Chelsea and Mudryk—we are in one boat.
