Joao Pedro Newcastle United transfer 2025 talks are heating up — and fans might finally see a major move materialise under Eddie Howe. Brighton’s £60m valuation isn’t for the faint-hearted, but after more than a year without a statement signing, Newcastle could finally take the plunge for a player long admired by Howe and his recruitment team.
Pedro Open to Newcastle — But Fee is the Hurdle
“Joao would be open to the move — now it’s about the two clubs agreeing terms,” said a source close to the player.
Newcastle made contact for Joao Pedro back in 2022, and while he ended up joining Brighton instead, the Magpies never lost interest. Sources say Pedro is now ready to answer Howe’s call — but Brighton, who aren’t shy about their status as a selling club, want their full £60m valuation met.
At £50,000 a week, Pedro’s wages are manageable — which could make him a rare mix of affordable on salary and big-money on paper.
What Would Pedro Bring to St James’ Park?
Pedro isn’t just a striker. Newcastle see the Brazilian as a multi-functional forward who can play as a No.9, No.10 or even out wide — vital versatility for a squad that’ll be tested across four competitions, including the Champions League.
His numbers last season:
- 10 goals
- 7 assists
- Tactical flexibility across the front line
Joao Pedro vs Newcastle’s Last Big Signings
| Player | Fee | Year Signed |
|---|---|---|
| Sandro Tonali | £55m | 2023 |
| Alexander Isak | £63m | 2022 |
| Joao Pedro (Projected) | £60m | 2025? |
It’s been two summers since Newcastle last made a seismic move in the transfer market. Fans are desperate for something significant — and Pedro would represent just that.
Why Now Makes Sense for Newcastle United
With PIF’s budget around £150m this summer and the Champions League back on Tyneside, Newcastle are in prime position to act. Pedro’s data profile has been vetted by the recruitment team, and his age (23) makes him a long-term asset who fits the project.
The only question: Will Brighton budge on the price?
Key Bullet Callouts
- Joao Pedro open to Newcastle United transfer
- Brighton demand £60m fee — wage demands manageable
- Howe has tracked the player since 2022
- First potential marquee signing since Tonali
- Pedro offers multi-role forward options for Champions League
What’s Next? Newcastle's Patience vs Brighton’s Price Tag
The deal will likely depend on whether Brighton soften their stance — or whether Newcastle hold firm and move to other targets. But unlike past summers, Newcastle are on the edge of action. And Joao Pedro might be the catalyst.
Will Newcastle pay £60m for Joao Pedro — or look elsewhere?

Good luck, won't be easy doing "cheap" deals with Brighton, forget about that. They've stolen s*&^ loads of money from us.. Especially the Sanchez deal.

He’s a very good player and fits within the profile player that Howe wants! Hopefully this will go through
