Bayern Munich have made a major U-turn on Kingsley Coman’s future — and it’s all down to Vincent Kompany. With Leroy Sane sealing a shock move to Galatasaray, Bayern have pulled Coman off the market, halting any momentum Arsenal had been building for a summer swoop.

The Gunners had registered interest in the French winger, with Saudi clubs also circling, sensing an opportunity to land the 29-year-old after a frustrating, injury-hit season in Bavaria. But Kompany sees Coman as essential to his first full campaign in charge, demanding he stays as the squad undergoes a reshuffle.

With Sane gone and Bayern’s top winger targets proving unattainable, the club have decided they cannot afford to lose another wide attacker. PSG’s Bradley Barcola is not for sale, and Barcelona lead the race for Nico Williams — forcing Bayern to hold what they have.

Bayern’s Winger Conundrum in 2025

Bayern’s original plan was to refresh their flank options — move Coman on, land a younger star, and reduce the wage bill. Coman earns a reported €17.5m annually and was one of the prime candidates for departure.

But with key targets slipping away and Coman delivering strong performances in the Club World Cup, the club has rethought the strategy.

Coman 2024/25 Stats Value
Goals (Club World Cup opener) 2
Assists 1
Contract Until 2027
Wage €17.5m/year
  • Bayern Munich won’t sell Coman despite interest from Arsenal and Saudi Arabia
  • Vincent Kompany wants the Frenchman to stay post-Sane departure
  • Bayern failed in approaches for Bradley Barcola and Nico Williams
  • Coman has two years left on his deal and impressed in the Club World Cup opener

What’s Next for Coman and Bayern?

Bayern face Boca Juniors next in the Club World Cup. Coman is expected to start again, with his immediate future now firmly in Bavaria. Arsenal, meanwhile, may have to pivot to backup winger targets as their interest stalls.

Should Arsenal move on or keep pushing for Coman?
