Manchester United have granted Alejandro Garnacho extra time off as speculation grows around a possible transfer — with Aston Villa named among the interested clubs.

The 20-year-old winger is one of five United players not returning for the start of pre-season under Ruben Amorim, according to Sky Sports. That list includes Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Tyrell Malacia, and Antony — all considered surplus to requirements at Carrington.

“It has been made clear they are not part of the plans,” said a source close to the situation. — Sky Sports

Rashford Exit Confirmed as Villa Opted Against Buy Option

Rashford spent the second half of last season on loan at Villa Park, scoring 4 goals in 17 appearances under Unai Emery. While he showed flashes of quality, injury setbacks and inconsistency saw Villa decline the £40m option to buy.

His No.10 shirt at Old Trafford has since been given to new signing Matheus Cunha, another strong signal his United career is over.

Could Villa Return for Garnacho?

Villa have long admired Garnacho’s profile – explosive pace, youth, and room to grow. According to The Independent, the Midlands club were quietly tracking him last season and may revisit the idea.
However, any deal would need to be creatively structured. United would demand a premium for the Argentina international, making a swap deal or staggered payment the most likely route.

Garnacho has reportedly told Manchester United he wants to leave this summer, after clashing with staff over his Europa League final minutes.

Garnacho vs Rashford: Who Fits Emery’s Vision?

Stat (2024/25) Alejandro Garnacho Marcus Rashford
Goals 6 4
Assists 5 2
Successful Dribbles 52 31
Chances Created 38 21

Verdict: Garnacho’s numbers suggest greater impact in fewer minutes, with room to develop under Emery’s system. Villa could view him as a long-term successor to Leon Bailey.

Analyst Verdict

Garnacho’s desire to leave, paired with United’s rebuild, gives Villa a rare chance to secure one of Europe’s most exciting young wide forwards. If the price is right, it’s a move worth making — but only if structured smartly. Emery won't compromise the dressing room for big names alone.

What’s Next?

Villa are expected to monitor Garnacho’s situation closely, especially if he pushes for a move before mid-July. The club’s current focus is on signing a new left-back and centre-forward, but should Garnacho become attainable, interest could escalate quickly.

Should Villa go all in for Garnacho this summer — or focus elsewhere?
