Ademola Lookman has made it clear that he will only leave Atalanta for Inter Milan — rejecting the chance of a Premier League return with Arsenal. The 27-year-old Nigeria international is currently absent from Atalanta training, keeping himself fit in Portugal, as he attempts to force through his preferred move.

Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Atalanta have been reluctant to sell to a Serie A rival, instead offering Lookman to top Premier League clubs to break the deadlock. Arsenal were among those approached, but the former Fulham and Leicester winger has turned them down, sticking to what Italian media describe as an “ironclad pact” with Inter.

“Ironclad Pact” with Inter

“Lookman has no intention of giving up on his dream move to Inter,” reports Gazzetta dello Sport, noting the player has already cleared his locker at Atalanta’s training ground.

Lookman believes Atalanta are going back on a previous promise to let him leave for a top club this summer. The Bergamo side are reportedly insisting that any agreement only applies to elite non-Italian clubs, and are unwilling to sell to a domestic rival for less than €50m.

Arsenal Approach Falls Flat

Arsenal’s interest appeared logical — Mikel Arteta is looking to strengthen his wide attacking options ahead of the 2025/26 season — but sources close to Lookman insist he has no appetite for another Premier League stint. Having already played for Everton, Fulham, and Leicester, he is focused solely on securing his move to Milan.

Analyst Verdict

From a tactical standpoint, Lookman’s skillset fits Inter perfectly. His direct dribbling, ability to operate on either flank, and strong big-game record in Serie A make him a natural upgrade for Simone Inzaghi’s attack. For Arsenal, it’s a case of moving on quickly to other targets — pursuing a player who is openly against a Premier League return is a non-starter.

The player’s decision to effectively go AWOL, train away from the squad, and publicly demand a move could make his Atalanta return untenable. However, the club’s hardline stance suggests they will not be bullied into selling on unfavourable terms.

Key Insights

  • Lookman absent from Atalanta training; keeping fit in Portugal.
  • Has rejected Arsenal approach — only wants Inter Milan.
  • Inter expected to submit another €50m offer.
  • Atalanta insist they won’t sell to a Serie A rival “on the cheap.”
  • Player has reportedly cleared his locker at the training ground.

What’s Next

Inter Milan are preparing another bid, and the coming days could be decisive. If Atalanta reject it, the stand-off will intensify — with fines likely for Lookman’s absence. Unless the Italian side soften their stance or Inter raise their offer, the saga risks dragging into the final hours of the transfer window.

Should Inter break the bank to land Lookman now, or risk waiting until the final days of the window?

I would have done the same, where is he going to play? There's no spot left for him
