Nottingham Forest lineup vs Arsenal is already giving new boss Ange Postecoglou a problem. Just days after replacing Nuno Espirito Santo, the Australian manager must navigate a tricky debut at the Emirates without two key full-backs.

Deadline-day arrival Oleksandr Zinchenko is ineligible to play against his parent club, while Ola Aina limped off during Nigeria’s clash with South Africa. Early reports suggest a hamstring issue, ruling him out of Saturday’s early kick-off. That double blow leaves Forest scrambling for solutions in defence.

Postecoglou, who built his Tottenham reputation on adventurous football, now faces a test of flexibility. Will he stick to his attacking principles or play it safe against Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal?

Without Zinchenko and Aina, Forest may turn to Nicolo Savona, a summer signing yet to be tested in the Premier League. The Italian could slot in at right-back, while Neco Williams is expected to switch across to the left flank.

Further forward, James McAtee is pushing to start after impressing from the bench against West Ham. The ex-Manchester City youngster could replace Dan Ndoye on the right, joining Callum Hudson-Odoi and Chris Wood in attack.

Wood’s hold-up play remains crucial, while Hudson-Odoi’s dribbling offers Forest an outlet on the counter. Gibbs-White is expected to operate between the lines, knitting midfield to attack.

FootballPlace analyst John William believes Postecoglou’s first Forest test could be brutal:

“Ange wants to impose his football quickly, but at the Emirates he may need pragmatism. With Zinchenko and Aina out, Forest’s defence is vulnerable. Arsenal will target the flanks relentlessly — it could be damage limitation if Forest aren’t compact.”

Still, William sees positives: “Gibbs-White and Hudson-Odoi can hurt teams in transition. If Forest survive the first half-hour, they can grow into the game. But the midfield selection is crucial — Sangare looked off the pace, Yates gives more control.”

After Arsenal, Forest face a run of fixtures that could define Postecoglou’s opening month — including clashes with Crystal Palace and Bournemouth. Securing points there will be vital if his tenure is to start positively.
