Atlético Madrid are considering a move for Nottingham Forest centre-back Murillo after failing in their pursuit of Tottenham Hotspur’s Cristian Romero.
The Spanish giants are in the market for a new central defender, and Murillo has emerged as a serious contender to bolster Diego Simeone’s backline.
Atlético Miss Out on Romero
Atlético made a direct approach to sign Cristian Romero but were firmly rejected by Tottenham. The Argentine remains untouchable at Spurs, and Atlético were told their bid “won’t even be considered,” according to AS.
That setback has forced the La Liga club to look elsewhere — and Murillo, along with Dávid Hancko (Feyenoord), Piero Hincapié (Leverkusen), and Jhon Lucumí (Bologna), is now under active review.
Forest Star on Simeone’s List
Murillo has gone from relatively unknown to one of the most consistent defenders in the Premier League since joining Forest from Corinthians in 2023.
Despite Forest’s struggles last season, the Brazilian stood out — and was rewarded with a new long-term contract until 2029. Atlético value him at around €55 million, but it’s unclear whether Forest would be willing to sell.
“Murillo’s physicality and composure have stood out in England — he’s a player we’re following closely,” said a source close to Atlético.
Murillo: 2024/25 Season Stats

Analyst Verdict
Murillo has the tools to thrive in La Liga — aggressive in duels, calm in possession, and rarely caught out of position. If Atlético are serious, Forest will demand full value, especially after handing him a new deal.

Obviously a transfer that would make sense for Atletico Madrid if they dont get Romero - he's similar to Romero and a bit younger.
