Turkish outlet Sabah reports that Galatasaray may abandon their pursuit of Manchester City’s Ederson due to high transfer and salary demands. Fanatik, however, claims efforts to lower the fee continue.

Galatasaray's long-running pursuit of Ederson is on the verge of collapse, as Manchester City’s financial demands for the Brazilian goalkeeper appear too steep for the Turkish champions.

Despite weeks of talks and strong interest, Sabah now reports that Galatasaray have “distanced themselves” from a deal — with City reportedly raising their asking price to €20 million, double the €10m initially expected.

The 31-year-old goalkeeper is also said to be requesting an annual salary in the region of €10 million, making the total package beyond Galatasaray’s planned budget for a No.1.

Galatasaray’s Goalkeeper Plan Hits a Wall

The Istanbul giants are seeking a high-profile replacement for club legend Fernando Muslera, who returned to Uruguay after over a decade at the club.

Ederson was seen as the ideal successor — a title-winning, Champions League-proven keeper who could anchor the defence for seasons to come. But the combination of transfer fee and salary expectations has complicated matters.

“City’s valuation has scared off the Gala board, who did not anticipate a €20m demand for a 31-year-old,” claimed Sabah.

Fanatik: Gala Not Giving Up Yet

Contrary to Sabah’s report, Turkish outlet Fanatik claims Galatasaray are still pushing behind the scenes. They say former Gala and Brazil legend Taffarel is actively trying to convince Ederson to accept the move and help lower the wage demands.

The club reportedly still views Ederson as their No.1 priority, but only if Manchester City agree to a €10m fee — or explore a structured payment model.Fanatik: Gala Not Giving Up Yet

Analyst Verdict

Ederson remains one of Europe’s top modern keepers — elite distribution, calm under pressure, and a winning pedigree. But Galatasaray, while ambitious, operate under tighter financial constraints than Premier League clubs.

Unless Manchester City compromise, or Ederson significantly drops his wage demands, this move may be dead in the water — especially with other positions to strengthen before the Super Lig kicks off.

Key Insights

  • Galatasaray wanted Ederson to replace Muslera but talks have stalled
  • Man City now demand €20m, not €10m as initially reported
  • Ederson’s €10m salary further complicates negotiations
  • Taffarel is reportedly involved in persuading his fellow Brazilian
  • Gala may still try one last push before turning to other targets

What’s Next?

Unless Manchester City revise their demands, Galatasaray could walk away from the deal this week. Taffarel’s involvement may keep negotiations alive behind the scenes, but the clock is ticking, with Gala’s new No.1 still not secured just weeks from the league opener.

Should Galatasaray keep pushing for Ederson — or spend the money elsewhere?
