Burnley have been offered the chance to sign Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain from Besiktas this summer — but the Clarets are only prepared to do business if the deal comes at no cost.
The Turkish giants are actively trying to move the former Arsenal and Liverpool star on as they trim their squad's foreign quota, and Oxlade-Chamberlain is not in their long-term vision.
Clarets Interested – But Only On Their Terms
According to Sporx, Burnley have shown interest in bringing the 31-year-old back to the Premier League. However, the newly promoted club will not pay a transfer fee and would only proceed on a free transfer basis.
“Burnley will only move for Oxlade-Chamberlain if Besiktas agree to terminate his contract,” reported Sporx. — Sporx (via Turkish media)
Besiktas are open to negotiating as they need to reduce their foreign player count — and Oxlade-Chamberlain’s €3m salary is a major hurdle. Burnley are reportedly prepared to offer a 1+1 year contract worth around €1.5m per season, contingent on a free transfer arrangement.
Oxlade-Chamberlain Must Decide on Wages
Despite making 20 appearances for Besiktas last season, scoring once, Oxlade-Chamberlain is not considered essential by the Istanbul side. His contract runs until June 2026, and a significant wage cut would be required to facilitate any Turf Moor switch.
Burnley, keen to keep wages sustainable, are not willing to stretch their budget. The final call rests with the ex-England international, who must now choose between a pay cut and a Premier League return.
