Estevao Willian will face his future club in the most dramatic fashion possible — with Palmeiras and Chelsea going head-to-head in the Club World Cup knockout stage.
The 18-year-old wonderkid is due to join the Blues for an initial £29m in the coming days — a deal that could eventually top £50m with add-ons. But before jetting off to London, he’ll have one last mission in green and white: stop Chelsea.
So far, Estevao has been electric in the tournament. His standout displays against Porto and Al Ahly — plus a confident showing against Messi’s Inter Miami — earned him a rising star status heading into this high-stakes quarter-final.
But Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca insists all focus remains on the team, not the teenager.
Maresca Plays Down Estevao Hype
“We prepare for Palmeiras, not Estevao. Right now, he’s their player — we’re only focused on winning the match.” — Enzo Maresca
The Italian coach was quick to shut down any talk of split loyalties ahead of kick-off. His Chelsea side are chasing the club’s first Club World Cup title — and he’s in no mood to let narrative get in the way of business.
How Estevao’s Mindset Could Make or Break the Game
For Estevao, the challenge is emotional as well as tactical.
The Brazilian has admitted it’s been tough to stay focused, knowing his dream Premier League move is now days away. With Chelsea’s squad and staff watching closely, he’ll need to block out the noise and deliver one last decisive performance for Palmeiras.
“It’s not easy,” Estevao said. “The butterflies start. But I want to leave through the front door — giving my all on the pitch.”
Chelsea’s Long Game Pays Off
Chelsea agreed terms with Palmeiras for Estevao over a year ago, securing one of South America’s brightest talents before competition could catch up. The Blues have monitored him closely since, and this Club World Cup only adds proof they’ve got a gem.
Whether he knocks them out tonight or not, Estevao will walk through the doors at Cobham next week as one of the most-watched teenagers in world football.

Estevao’s final Palmeiras test is a massive character check — and one Chelsea fans will be watching just as closely as the coaching staff. If he shines under pressure, expect his Stamford Bridge stock to soar before he even kicks a ball in blue.

I love this kid already - expect a lot from him actually. But I do hope he gets enough playtime once at Chelsea
