Fer López’s move to Wolverhampton Wanderers has gone from promising to problematic in just a few months, with reports in Spain describing the youngster’s Premier League start as a “nightmare.”

According to Cadena SER, the Spain U21 international has endured a difficult adaptation period since joining Wolves from Celta de Vigo in a €25 million transfer last summer.

A Tough Start in England

The 21-year-old attacking midfielder was expected to be one of Wolves’ bright new faces this season after a busy transfer window that saw the club spend over €100 million. However, his impact has been minimal so far.

López has featured in seven matches across all competitions, logging just 235 minutes and one Premier League start. His only contribution to date came in the 3–1 defeat to Leeds United, when he provided an assist — his sole goal involvement in a difficult start.

Cadena SER report that López “wouldn’t have imagined his move to Wolves would turn into a nightmare,” with his confidence dropping amid struggles to adapt to English football and the demands of manager Vítor Pereira.

“They cite the adaptation process as being difficult for him. This, coupled with a loss of confidence from Vítor Pereira, are the reasons for his restricted role.” — Cadena SER

Wolves’ Woes Adding Pressure

Wolves’ poor form has only compounded the problem. Pereira’s side are bottom of the Premier League table and remain without a win after nine league matches.

The mood worsened in midweek when Chelsea beat them 4–3 in the EFL Cup, a match in which López’s misplaced pass led directly to the Blues’ third goal. That mistake, the outlet says, has further eroded the manager’s trust in the young Spaniard.

With confidence low throughout the squad and results not improving, the concern is that López could be sidelined for the foreseeable future.

“Very Difficult” to Regain Place

Cadena SER add that López now faces a steep climb to regain his place in Pereira’s starting XI. The midfielder’s creative instincts and technical flair were key reasons Wolves invested heavily in him, but the Spanish press suggest he is struggling to adapt to the physical intensity and tactical discipline required in England.

The report concludes that the youngster will find it “very difficult” to recover his role in the team unless performances — both individual and collective — turn around soon.

Our View: Patience Needed for López

In our view, Wolves need to show patience with Fer López. He’s 21, playing outside Spain for the first time, and adjusting to a team low on confidence. A run of fixtures against less dominant opposition could help him find rhythm and rediscover the attacking instincts that made him so highly rated at Celta.

But with Wolves battling relegation pressure, it’s understandable that Pereira has leaned on more experienced players in the short term.
