Darwin Núñez’s future at Liverpool is back in the spotlight after a fresh update from Fabrizio Romano.
Despite recent denials earlier in the year, Romano has reaffirmed that Liverpool are planning for life beyond the Uruguayan striker, with a summer exit now looking likely.
Romano: “The Plan is Clear”
Speaking on Saturday morning, Romano stated that the plan for Núñez has remained the same since February.
“The plan is clear since February and it hasn’t changed: Darwin Núñez, expected to leave Liverpool in the summer.
After the offer turned down by the club in January from Al-Nassr, all options will be considered in the upcoming months. Darwin, also open to new chapter.”
This comes after reports that Núñez was open to a move in January, but Liverpool blocked the deal due to a lack of time to find a replacement.
A Mixed Spell at Anfield
Núñez arrived with great expectations and a hefty price tag — potentially rising to £85m with add-ons. But consistency in front of goal has evaded him.
So far this season, he has netted only 7 goals in 42 appearances across all competitions. His Premier League impact has been limited, with just one league start in 2025.
And yet, he’s provided big moments: dramatic late winners against Newcastle, Nottingham Forest, and Brentford stand out. His raw energy, pace, and movement still make him a threat — but it’s unclear whether he fits into Arne Slot’s long-term vision.
Núñez’s Liverpool Stats – All Competitions
Here’s a breakdown of Darwin Núñez’s numbers since arriving at Liverpool, including goals, assists, and xG (expected goals):
| Season | Appearances | Goals | Assists | Expected Goals (xG) |

| 2022–23 | 42 | 15 | 4 | 17.5 |
| 2023–24 | 47 | 16 | 11 | 16.8 |
| 2024–25 (so far) | 42 | 7 | 3 | 8.9 |
| Total | 131 | 38 | 18 | 43.2 |
Is This the End of Núñez at Liverpool?
With five weeks left in the season, there’s still time for Darwin Núñez to write one final chapter at Anfield.
Whether he stays or moves on, his Liverpool journey has been full of drama, debate, and flashes of brilliance.
Would you keep Darwin at Liverpool — or is it time for the club to move on?

I wouldn't sell him. The energy he brings and the way he can press is amazing and good. Unfortunately he's a striker and numbers don't lie. he misses way too much. I would try to get him if that is possible for Chelsea
