Fabian Hurzeler insists he feels “no pressure” despite Brighton’s difficult Premier League run, as attention shifts to their FA Cup trip to Liverpool this weekend.

Albion sit 14th in the table after a midweek defeat at Aston Villa extended their league sequence to one win in 13 matches. Their last victory in any competition came in the FA Cup third round, when they defeated Manchester United.

Some supporters voiced frustration following last weekend’s loss to Crystal Palace, but the club’s hierarchy are understood to remain calm about the broader project.

Fabian Hurzeler responds to Brighton pressure talk

“No, I feel no pressure,” Hurzeler said.

“I feel the pressure I put on myself to prepare the team the best I can, to be there for them and to improve them every day.

“That’s the most pressure I feel, because I always want to be the best version of myself, to try to be there for the club, for the fans, for the team and for the staff.”

The Brighton head coach acknowledged the reality of the current situation but stressed the importance of unity.

“The reality is that it’s not an easy situation, but in these tough times, you really see how you act with each other, how you treat each other, how you support each other.

“I really feel supported. I really feel the belief from the club and now it’s about me, it’s about us to give something back.”

Togetherness key ahead of Liverpool test

Brighton have remained at St George’s Park between fixtures in Birmingham and on Merseyside, using the training base to refocus before facing Liverpool in the FA Cup.

Hurzeler pointed to positive signs in the Villa performance despite the result.

“I learned a lot of positives from my players,” he said.

“I knew before that they have great personalities, great characters, but especially how they stick together, how they played football, how they defended against the ball.

“It’s easy to point the finger at each other but I didn’t see that. I really see a team that comes together.”

Having followed Brighton’s campaign closely, performances have often been more competitive than results suggest. However, it remains too early to determine whether improved cohesion will translate into points.
