Everton have accelerated their pursuit of Sevilla full-back Juanlu Sánchez, with negotiations now underway as the Spanish club look to unlock their January transfer window.

Five days ago, El Desmarque revealed that Everton had revived their interest in the 22-year-old, and subsequent reports from Spain suggested an offer from the Toffees was imminent. Sevilla are open to a sale, with financial pressures forcing them to offload players before making any additions of their own.

Sevilla finances drive urgency

Spanish outlet Cope has now reinforced Everton’s interest while outlining Sevilla’s broader situation. The Andalusian club are in need of immediate exits to generate funds, and Juanlu has been identified as one of the primary candidates to be sold, alongside Kike Salas.

Originally, Rubén Vargas had been earmarked as Sevilla’s most likely departure, but another injury setback has removed that option. As a result, sporting director Antonio Cordón is now focused on finalising alternative sales.

Juanlu’s status as a product of Sevilla’s academy makes him particularly attractive to sell, as any fee would represent pure profit on the club’s balance sheet.

Everton open negotiations channel

According to Vamos Mi Sevilla FC, Everton have now formally opened a negotiation channel for Juanlu, with talks described as beneficial for both clubs.

The report suggests Everton are intensifying their efforts and are prepared to structure a deal creatively. Sevilla, anticipating Juanlu’s possible departure, have already begun lining up replacements.

One such option is Everton right-back Nathan Patterson. The Merseyside club are reportedly offering Patterson on loan as part of a wider agreement, while Sevilla would receive around €15m from Juanlu’s permanent sale.

Swap deal being explored

Cordón is said to be working on finalising the framework of a swap-style arrangement, combining Juanlu’s sale with Patterson’s temporary move to Spain. While loan deals to La Liga clubs do not always prove successful in the long term, Sevilla are exploring all options to ensure they can act in the market before the window closes.

For Everton and David Moyes, Juanlu represents a long-term addition with resale potential, while Sevilla are focused on immediate financial flexibility.

Negotiations are ongoing, with the coming days likely to determine whether this developing deal reaches completion.
