Elliot Anderson news has taken a twist during the international break, with the Nottingham Forest midfielder publicly backing Nuno Espirito Santo to remain in charge. The 22-year-old, currently on England duty ahead of World Cup qualifiers against Andorra and Serbia, admitted Nuno has been crucial to his development and hopes the manager survives peace talks with owner Evangelos Marinakis.

Nuno’s position has come under scrutiny following a breakdown in relations with Marinakis and new head of football Edu Gaspar. For Anderson, though, the Portuguese coach’s faith has been pivotal since his move from Newcastle last summer — a deal driven largely by PSR considerations.

Anderson on Nuno’s Influence

The midfielder, who starred in England’s Under-21 Euros triumph before his first senior call-up, was clear about the importance of his club boss:

“He’s been really good for me. I feel he’s given me the freedom to go out and do what I do. He just believes in me, which is the main thing.” — Elliot Anderson, via England camp press conference

Anderson added: “He has said ‘go out and play the way you train’, which has really helped me. Freedom in the team has given me the platform to do well.”

The Nuno–Marinakis Rift

Forest’s owner Evangelos Marinakis is set for crunch talks with Nuno during the break. Their strained relationship has spilled into the open, while Edu Gaspar’s arrival as head of football has complicated matters further. Nuno, who guided Forest to safety last season, is fighting to keep control amid internal discord.

Anderson’s Rise Since Newcastle Exit

Anderson admitted his move from Newcastle to Forest was tough but insists it has transformed his career:
“Sometimes you’ve got to step out of your comfort zone and believe in yourself, which is what I’ve done.”

Last season he played 42 matches across all competitions, scoring twice and assisting six. That form earned him an England call-up and a chance to join the Wallsend Boys Club alumni — following legends Alan Shearer, Paul Gascoigne, and Michael Carrick.

Analyst Verdict — John William

Anderson’s comments underline the importance of stability at Forest. For a young squad integrating new faces, Nuno’s departure would risk undoing the progress of last season. Anderson has blossomed under the Portuguese and his development is evidence of the manager’s trust.

For Marinakis, the decision is bigger than personal disagreements. If Nuno leaves, Forest risk derailing momentum and unsettling players who credit him for their rise. For Anderson, continuity could be crucial in cementing his England place ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

Key Insights

  • Anderson hopes Nuno survives Forest peace talks with Marinakis.
  • Hails Nuno for giving him freedom and belief since joining from Newcastle.
  • Nuno locked in tense stand-off with Forest hierarchy.
  • Anderson part of England’s squad after U21 Euros triumph.
  • Played 42 games last season with 2 goals and 6 assists.

What’s Next for Anderson and Forest?

For now, Anderson’s focus is on England duty and a possible senior debut. When he returns, the question is whether Nuno will still be in the dugout. Peace talks will decide whether Forest move forward under the Portuguese or face another managerial reset.

Will Nottingham Forest’s board back Nuno Espirito Santo — or risk unsettling stars like Elliot Anderson just as they break through internationally?

he's had a very good season - but this cant drag longer. The player will feel it somehow and probably under perform. this stuff shouldn't go publicly and should have been sorted internally.
