Newcastle United will visit Leicester City on Monday night, hoping to keep their Champions League dreams alive. The Magpies have been in strong form lately, securing three consecutive victories across all competitions, including their triumphant Carabao Cup win, ending a 70-year wait for a major domestic trophy.
On the other hand, Leicester have struggled, going seven games without a win. However, Newcastle manager Eddie Howe was quick to praise the Foxes, particularly highlighting one key player.
Howe Hails Jamie Vardy's Threat
Ahead of the match, Howe spoke in his press conference and acknowledged the danger posed by Leicester striker Jamie Vardy. The 47-year-old manager stated: "Jamie Vardy is still a massive threat and he brings his unique qualities that we are going to need to control."
Howe also reminded his team that there are no easy games in the Premier League, adding: “We are going to have to be on our guard.”
Although Leicester are struggling, Howe expressed respect for the Foxes, saying: “[Leicester] will believe they have a chance [of avoiding relegation]. I always look at how teams play, and Leicester have been very competitive. We know they are dangerous.”
With several Newcastle players facing injury doubts for the upcoming match, Leicester may still have a chance to end their long winless run, which dates back to a 2-1 victory at Tottenham in January.
Jamie Vardy's Record Against Newcastle
Howe's focus on Vardy is certainly justified. According to Transfermarkt, the Leicester star has been a consistent threat against Newcastle, recording eight goal contributions in 14 Premier League appearances against them – five goals and three assists.
In 14 appearances Jamie Vardy has scored 5 goals against Newcastle and has 3 assist.
Vardy’s most memorable performance came in Leicester’s 2015/16 Premier League title-winning season when he scored in his 10th consecutive match at St James’ Park, equaling Ruud van Nistelrooy's long-standing record. He would go on to break the record in his next match, scoring against Manchester United.
With Leicester failing to score in their last seven games and Vardy sitting just two goals away from his 200th for the club, the veteran striker will be determined to get on the scoresheet against the Magpies.

What threat? Vardy is done, due his age. Leicester should move on after this summer.
