According to Matteo Moretto, Nottingham Forest are actively working on a loan deal with option to buy for Juventus midfielder Douglas Luiz. The Brazilian is no longer in Tudor’s plans.
Nottingham Forest are making a serious attempt to bring Douglas Luiz back to the Premier League — just one year after his move from Aston Villa to Juventus.
Transfer insider Matteo Moretto reports that Forest are “pushing” for the 26-year-old, aiming to land him on an initial loan deal with a conditional purchase option. Juventus, for their part, would prefer a permanent transfer, but discussions are ongoing and Forest are said to be in direct talks.
Not in Tudor’s Plans
Douglas Luiz is reportedly not part of Juventus boss Igor Tudor’s plans for 2025/26. The midfielder missed the start of pre-season without club consent, raising tension in Turin, although he has since returned to full training.
Despite only joining Juventus last summer in a high-profile move from Villa Park, Luiz’s situation has quickly soured, and his Serie A stint could already be ending.
“Forest are pushing hard. Juventus would prefer a sale, but Luiz could still leave on loan.” — Matteo Moretto (Relevo)
What Forest Want from the Deal
Forest have proposed a loan with an option to buy, which would convert into an obligation under certain performance-based triggers — such as appearances, goals or the club avoiding relegation.
It’s not the first time they’ve shown interest in Luiz. Moretto adds that Forest first enquired back in January, but no deal materialised.

Analyst Verdict
This would be a statement signing for Nottingham Forest — even if only on loan. Luiz offers Premier League experience, technical quality, and midfield control — something the squad currently lacks.
Forest’s midfield last season lacked ball progression and composure under pressure. Luiz brings both, and his existing familiarity with the league could make him an instant starter.
His falling-out in Turin, combined with Forest’s offer to cover wages, makes this one to watch in the coming days.
Key Insights
- Douglas Luiz is not in Juventus' plans for 2025/26
- Nottingham Forest pushing for a loan with option to buy
- Juventus prefer a permanent sale, but open to negotiations
- Luiz’s Premier League experience makes him ideal for Forest’s midfield
What’s Next
Nottingham Forest will look to strike a deal before the season kicks off — but much depends on whether Juventus will relax their stance and accept the loan format.
Personal terms are not expected to be a major issue — Luiz is understood to be open to a Premier League return. Expect developments before Forest’s final pre-season clash on August 6.
Would Douglas Luiz be a good fit at the City Ground? Or is Forest better off targeting younger midfielders?

Would be their signing of the year! They've got Edu as well, so I believe this one could be true for Forest!
