Everton are leading the race to sign Douglas Luiz — but Juventus aren’t making life easy for the Toffees.

The 27-year-old Brazilian midfielder is said to be pushing for a transfer to Merseyside this summer, according to Gazzetta dello Sport. Despite interest from Nottingham Forest and West Ham, Everton are currently the preferred destination.

Luiz, who joined Juventus from Aston Villa in 2024 for €50 million, didn’t report for the club’s pre-season camp last week, fuelling talk of a summer exit. He is now back in training, but Juventus are determined to recoup a large portion of their investment.

Why Everton’s Offer Doesn’t Work for Juventus

Everton have proposed a dry loan deal with no obligation — a move that would allow them to evaluate Luiz over the 2025/26 season.

Juventus, however, are pushing for a loan with a mandatory purchase clause, in order to recover significant funds from last year’s signing.

“Juventus don’t want to loan Luiz without guarantees. Everton must commit to a permanent deal,” said a Turin-based source. — Gazzetta dello Sport

What Douglas Luiz Would Bring to Goodison Park

Douglas Luiz offers the kind of midfield balance Everton have lacked. A strong ball-winner with experience in both Serie A and the Premier League, he also contributes in possession with clean distribution and long-range shooting ability.

His profile would suit David Moyes’s tactical setup.

Analyst Verdict

Luiz has been a solid performer in Serie A, but his style remains more suited to English football. If Everton can structure a deal creatively — perhaps through a performance-based obligation — they could land a player who transforms their midfield.

Talks between Everton and Juventus are set to intensify this weekend, with Kia Joorabchian working to find a compromise. If the Toffees can adjust their terms, this deal could accelerate quickly — otherwise, expect West Ham or Forest to circle.
