Donnarumma agent takes swipe at PSG while praising Manchester City move

Gianluigi Donnarumma’s agent has taken a subtle swipe at Paris Saint-Germain while expressing clear satisfaction with the goalkeeper’s early impact at Manchester City, insisting that “one day” PSG may have to explain their decision to let him go.

Since joining Manchester City, Gianluigi Donnarumma has quickly established himself as a key figure under Pep Guardiola. Any early doubts about his suitability for City’s possession-heavy style have largely disappeared, with Guardiola adapting aspects of his system to maximise the Italian’s strengths.

Donnarumma’s representative, Enzo Raiola, spoke to Radio Sportiva about his client’s situation and could not resist a pointed remark about the goalkeeper’s former club, Paris Saint-Germain.

“It’s been a busy summer for him, given what happened in Paris,” Raiola said.
“Maybe one day they’ll explain what happened in their evaluations, but today we’re enjoying a great performance by City.”

At PSG, Donnarumma struggled to fully meet the tactical demands of Luis Enrique, while his wages were also viewed as an issue — factors that ultimately led to his exit.

Raiola stressed that both player and club are pleased with how things have unfolded in England so far.

“When Gigio arrived, things improved in terms of results, and now we’re battling with Arsenal for the top spot,” he added. “There will be a lot of games in January, but the first six months have gone well. He and the club are happy, and that’s fine.”

City’s title race with Arsenal has underlined the goalkeeper’s importance, particularly as Guardiola has tweaked his approach to accommodate Donnarumma’s profile.

Raiola also revealed details of Donnarumma’s close relationship with Erling Haaland, another key figure in City’s squad.

“From day one, he had a bond with him,” Raiola explained. “They were both in our team in the past and therefore worked for the same agency. After Mino’s death, the connection remained, and he even resembles Gigio in personality.

“They are both exceptional guys, and that was the key.”

While Ederson offered superior distribution, Donnarumma brings a different elite quality: shot-stopping. Guardiola’s willingness to adjust his build-up play to reduce pressure on the Italian’s feet has allowed City to retain control while benefiting from Donnarumma’s reflexes and presence.
