Diogo Jota on Liverpool’s final push for the title: “Now It’s All Mental”

Liverpool are just two wins away from officially being crowned Premier League champions for the 2024/25 season — and striker Diogo Jota believes what matters now isn’t how well the team plays, but how mentally prepared they are to finish the job.

With a 13-point cushion over second-place Arsenal and only six games left, the title is virtually guaranteed. Any combination of six points gained by Liverpool or dropped by Arsenal will be enough to secure their 20th top-flight crown.

But Jota warns that complacency could still pose a threat.
“Obviously we are arriving at the stage of the season where it’s much more important to get those three points than to play well,” he said. “I think we played well the majority of the season but it’s more about mental strength now.”

Mental Strength Over Style
As the intensity of the schedule lightens, with Liverpool now having a full week to prepare for each game, Jota believes staying mentally focused will make the difference.

“It’s been a tough season for everyone, mentally and physically, but I think the mental part now plays a bigger role.

We now have a full week before every game and I think we will be fresh for every game to do our best, like each game is a final now for us.”

Remaining Fixtures: Smooth Finish?
Liverpool face Leicester City this weekend — a side sitting on the edge of relegation and needing a miracle to stay up. Next is a home game against Tottenham, currently languishing in 15th with little left to play for.

Depending on results, the Premier League title could be wrapped up before Liverpool even face Chelsea and Arsenal in what might’ve been blockbuster clashes earlier in the campaign.

Slot’s Stamp on the Team
Reflecting on new manager Arne Slot’s first season, Jota was full of praise for the Dutchman’s philosophy and ability to win over the squad quickly.

“I think from the first moment, credit to the gaffer for making us believe in his ideas,” Jota said.
“Obviously the results started coming away and that gave everybody in the building a lot of confidence.
I’m sure if you ask him he also learned a lot this season. But if you get over the line with the [title], imagine how bright the future will be?”

“It’s an amazing start and I think it exceeded expectations, but until the job is done these conversations don’t really matter.”
