Speaking to Portuguese broadcaster DAZN, Dalot explained that the team still follows many of the same tactical principles used earlier in the season.

According to the Portuguese defender, the core structure in possession remains similar. Manchester United still build play with three players in the first phase while maintaining flexibility across the midfield and attacking lines.

The main change, Dalot explained, is visible in the defensive organisation.

Under Carrick, the team now often defends with a back four rather than a three centre back system. Even so, the defensive shape can shift depending on the situation during matches.

Manchester United confidence improved under Carrick

Having followed Manchester United closely during recent weeks, the improvement in confidence within the squad has been one of the most noticeable changes since Carrick took charge.

Dalot suggested that belief and momentum can often influence performances just as much as tactical adjustments.

“At the end of the day what really matters is the result. When confidence is high, with the quality of players we have, sometimes you don’t even need to say much and players perform well.” — Diogo Dalot

United’s recent run of results has placed them firmly back in the race for Champions League qualification.

However, it remains too early to determine whether Carrick will remain in charge beyond the end of the season.

Dalot embraces senior leadership role at Manchester United

Now in his fifth season at Old Trafford, Dalot has become one of the longest serving players in the squad.

The defender acknowledged that his role has naturally evolved as new players continue to arrive at the club.

Dalot joined Manchester United from FC Porto in 2018 as a promising young full back. Over time, he has developed into one of the more experienced voices inside the dressing room.

Despite that status, the Portuguese international still sees himself as part of the club’s younger generation of players.

Versatility helping Dalot’s development

Dalot has occasionally been used in a more advanced role this season, operating further forward on the right side.

The defender believes these experiences have helped improve his understanding of attacking situations.

However, he admitted that the full back position remains where he feels most comfortable.
The added versatility, though, has helped him develop into a more tactically flexible player.
