Tottenham reject Roma approach as Destiny Udogie transfer stance becomes clear

Tottenham Hotspur have made their position clear on Destiny Udogie's future after AS Roma stepped up their interest in signing the Italy international this summer.

The Serie A club are searching for another wing-back despite already securing the arrival of Nahuel Molina, with Udogie now emerging as one of their priority targets.

However, Tottenham are unwilling to entertain the type of deal Roma would prefer.

Roma continue to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season and have identified Udogie as an ideal addition on the left flank.

The Italian side have also explored a move for Luis Henrique of Inter Milan, but reports suggest Udogie remains their preferred option.

Roma had hoped to sign the Tottenham defender on an initial loan with an option to buy, believing that structure would suit their financial position.

Tottenham have quickly rejected that proposal.

Reports indicate Spurs have informed Roma they will only consider a permanent transfer, ruling out any loan agreement with a future purchase option.

The Premier League club are believed to value Udogie at around €27-30 million, although there is no indication they are actively looking to sell the 23-year-old.

Their stance makes negotiations significantly more complicated for Roma, who are working within financial constraints after recent spending in the transfer market.

Udogie continues to be highly regarded by Tottenham head coach Roberto De Zerbi, who is understood to be a strong admirer of his fellow Italian.

The left-back finished last season strongly under De Zerbi and is expected to remain an important part of Spurs' plans heading into the new campaign.

Tottenham also strengthened the position earlier this summer by signing Andy Robertson, giving the squad greater depth at left-back rather than creating a need to sell Udogie.

With Roma unable to meet Tottenham's preferred transfer terms at this stage, a deal currently appears difficult to complete.

Roma must decide whether to change their approach and pursue a permanent deal if they are to have any chance of signing Udogie. For now, Tottenham remain relaxed over the defender's future and are expected to keep him unless their valuation is met.
