Crystal Palace winger Darío Osorio has earned glowing praise from Chile legend Iván Zamorano after producing a moment of quality in his country's 2-0 victory over Mexico.
Osorio has yet to establish himself under Pierre Sage following his summer move to Palace, but the 22-year-old showed his creative ability on international duty by setting up Vicente Pizarro for Chile's second goal.
The overall performance may not have been spectacular, but Osorio's assist was enough for former Real Madrid and Inter Milan striker Zamorano to describe him as a “star player”.
Zamorano impressed by Osorio assist
Osorio initially shaped to shoot from outside the penalty area with his left foot before spotting Pizarro's run and instead playing him through to score.
“What Darío Osorio does is the mark of a star player,” Zamorano said during his coverage of the match, as relayed by RedGol.
“Maybe he didn’t appear that much in the game, but these are the plays where you say: this kid is a star.”
Zamorano was particularly impressed by Osorio's ability to disguise his intentions.
“He’s going to shoot and… everyone thinks he’s going to shoot, but he plays the pass to Pizarro,” he added.
Osorio waiting for Crystal Palace opportunity
Zamorano has been a vocal supporter of Osorio since his move to Selhurst Park, previously describing the transfer as the “right path” for the winger's career.
Palace supporters have had fewer opportunities to see those qualities so far.
Osorio has received limited playing time under Sage and is still waiting for an extended run in the side following his summer arrival.
His latest international contribution therefore comes at a useful time. Producing decisive moments for Chile can strengthen his case for greater involvement when Palace return to domestic action.
Zamorano's praise does not guarantee that opportunity, but it underlines why there was excitement surrounding Osorio when Palace signed him.
