Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has finally spoken out following the shock decision to sack Ange Postecoglou, just weeks after he led the club to their first trophy since 2008. Despite delivering a Europa League triumph in Bilbao, Spurs’ dismal 17th-place Premier League finish forced a dramatic rethink at the top.
The club acted swiftly, appointing Thomas Frank from Brentford for a reported £10m release fee, ending Postecoglou’s short but memorable reign.
Daniel Levy on Postecoglou Sacking
“I’m very grateful to Ange, I don’t regret appointing Ange. In his first season we finished fifth and in our second season we were over the moon to win a trophy. But we need to compete in all competitions and we felt that we needed a change.” — Daniel Levy
Levy acknowledged the emotional difficulty behind the decision, stressing it was not his alone.
“It was a collective decision,” he said. “It wasn’t my decision. We do everything together. Emotionally it was difficult, but we believe we’ve made the right decision for the club.”
The chairman also reaffirmed Postecoglou’s legacy at the club, saying the Australian and his family would always be welcome back at Tottenham.
Why Spurs Chose Thomas Frank
Thomas Frank becomes the 13th permanent manager under Daniel Levy’s 24-year tenure — and one the club sees as key to its long-term future.
“Of the things that stood out to me with Thomas – clearly highly intelligent, great communicator, super human being… those three parts really stood out.” — Daniel Levy
New CEO Vinai Venkatesham also revealed the thorough process that led to Frank’s appointment. Spurs reportedly assessed over 30 candidates, narrowing it down with the help of technical director Johan Lange.
“We defined 10 characteristics that we think are important to be a successful manager at Tottenham Hotspur,” Venkatesham said. “Thomas was absolutely the number one candidate.”
He emphasised Frank’s reputation for developing young players, which aligns with Spurs’ long-term squad-building philosophy.
Spurs Transfer Focus Shifts to Mbeumo
With Frank now at the helm, Tottenham’s recruitment is also under the spotlight. Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo, a trusted player under Frank, has been heavily linked — though Manchester United are also in pursuit. The Bees reportedly value the winger at around £65m.

What’s Next?
Spurs’ summer window will be defined by Frank’s ability to reshape the squad and restore Premier League form. The Mbeumo chase may be the first of several Brentford-to-Spurs storylines.
Will Frank restore Spurs' domestic dominance or will fans regret letting Ange go?
