Leeds United endured a bruising evening at the Emirates, falling 5–0 to Arsenal in their second Premier League game of the season. Manager Daniel Farke was candid afterwards, acknowledging the gulf in quality on the day while pointing to key absences and missed opportunities.
Farke’s side arrived in North London without captain Ethan Ampadu, a loss the German admitted was decisive against a Gunners team high on energy following their Old Trafford victory. Arsenal’s relentless start — capped by goals from Jurrien Timber and Bukayo Saka before the break — left Leeds chasing shadows.
Daniel Farke’s Post-Match Reaction
“It was always a difficult [task] for us, travelling here without our most important player, our captain Ethan Ampadu. And then of course you wish to have Arsenal after a Champions League game or something, not their first home game of the season and on the back of a big win away at Manchester United. All of their new signings were paraded before the game, the stadium was buzzing and they are on it. The first 10-15 minutes we had to suffer and then I think we came back into the game. Struijk’s header was the best chance of the game, but it was a very good save from their keeper. It was annoying to concede out of a set piece. We underestimated their counter press a little bit and they scored out for a difficult angle for 2-0. Second half five shots on target, five goals. It is difficult when they are so effective. Long story short they were the better side and deserved to win this game.” — Daniel Farke, Sky Sports

Leeds registered just three shots and created no big chances, their only real opening coming from Pascal Struijk’s first-half header, which David Raya turned away. Arsenal, by contrast, were clinical — turning all five of their shots on target into goals.
Analyst Verdict — FootballPlace View
By FootballPlace analyst John William
Daniel Farke’s honesty was refreshing, but the task ahead is clear. Leeds are struggling without Ampadu’s leadership and defensive cover, while their midfield lacked the structure to withstand Arsenal’s counter-press.
From reviewing Leeds’ performance, the concern isn’t just defensive lapses — it’s the inability to retain possession under pressure. Against Arsenal’s intensity, they looked fragile. For survival and stability, Farke will need his midfield anchors back quickly and a sharper attacking edge at Elland Road.
Key Insights
- Arsenal 5–0 Leeds: Timber (2), Saka, Gyökeres (2) the scorers
- Farke highlighted absence of captain Ampadu as decisive
- Struijk’s header was Leeds’ best chance at 1–0
- Arsenal converted all five shots on target
- Leeds boss admitted: “They were the better side and deserved to win”
What’s Next
Leeds return to Elland Road to face Newcastle United, a crucial fixture after back-to-back defeats. With Ampadu’s return uncertain, Farke must quickly tighten the defensive unit and give his side belief against a team that thrives in possession.
Arsenal, meanwhile, travel to Liverpool, aiming to extend their perfect start and hoping injuries to Saka and Ødegaard prove minor.
Can Leeds steady themselves against Newcastle United — or are early warning signs already flashing for Farke’s men?

Tbh even outdated Mourinho would have done it better. We won’t survive in the PL with this guy. Ange is available and Mourinho would love to get back to the PL. So one of those 2
