Palace to reward highest-paid star Kamada with long-term extension

Crystal Palace are moving to tie down one of their most important players, with reports suggesting that Daichi Kamada is set to be offered a new long-term contract. The Japanese international’s current deal runs until the end of the season, but the Eagles are determined to secure his future well in advance.

Kamada, 29, joined Palace on a free transfer from Lazio in the summer of 2024, becoming the first Japanese player in the club’s history. He immediately reunited with manager Oliver Glasner, under whom he enjoyed great success at Eintracht Frankfurt. Together, they lifted the Europa League in 2022 and have since added both the FA Cup and Community Shield to Palace’s trophy cabinet.

This renewal drive underscores the club’s determination to maintain stability under Glasner after an extraordinary 19-game Premier League unbeaten run across two seasons, a streak only halted by defeat to Everton last weekend. Despite selling Eberechi Eze to Arsenal in the summer, Palace have shown resilience and ambition, with Kamada’s influence at the heart of their progress.

Palace’s hierarchy are keen to recognise Kamada’s value with a new deal. The midfielder has started every game available to him this season, highlighting his role as a consistent presence in the XI.

As per Capology, Kamada currently earns £105,000 per week, making him the club’s highest-paid player, narrowly ahead of goalkeeper Dean Henderson (£100,000 per week). Whether the new contract includes a wage increase remains to be seen, but the intention is clear: Palace want their biggest earner to stay long term.

Kamada’s bond with Glasner has been central to his success in England. Having worked together in Frankfurt, where they enjoyed European glory, their partnership has translated seamlessly to the Premier League. Glasner’s own contract talks are also progressing positively, and Palace believe tying the Austrian down is crucial to retaining players like Kamada.

The midfielder has now made 52 appearances for Palace, registering two goals and four assists. While not prolific, his tactical intelligence and link-up play have made him indispensable in Glasner’s system.

FootballPlace analyst John William believes Palace’s decision to prioritise Kamada’s contract is a reflection of their strategic growth:

Renewing his deal ensures continuity, which is vital for a club looking to establish itself as a consistent top-half Premier League side.”

Talks with Kamada are expected to accelerate in the coming weeks, with Palace keen to avoid uncertainty around one of their core players. The midfielder’s strong relationship with Glasner means a deal appears highly likely, provided both contracts are tied up together.

Palace are also negotiating with striker Jean-Philippe Mateta, another central figure in their attack. With Glasner on the verge of committing his future and Kamada close to doing the same, the Eagles could soon have the spine of their team secured for seasons to come.
