Crystal Palace have reached an agreement to sign Jaydee Canvot from Toulouse, with final paperwork now being exchanged.
The move comes just a week after FootballPlace revealed Palace’s exclusive pursuit of the 20-year-old centre-back. Canvot is viewed as part of the long-term plan at Selhurst Park, but also as a potential replacement should captain Marc Guehi complete a transfer to Liverpool.
With Guehi in the final year of his contract and refusing to renew, Palace are under pressure to avoid losing their star defender on a free next summer.
Palace’s Defensive Transition
“Palace are finalising documents with Toulouse for Jaydee Canvot — Fabrizio Romano — a move that could be tied to Marc Guehi’s uncertain future.” — Football Place
Chairman Steve Parish and manager Oliver Glasner are reshaping the back line, with Canvot identified as a high-upside addition to slot into the squad immediately.

The youngster showed promise in limited minutes, offering mobility and clearances under pressure. Palace see him as a project player who can develop in the Premier League.
Analyst Verdict
FootballPlace analyst John William believes Palace are future-proofing:
“Canvot isn’t a ready-made Guehi replacement yet, but this deal is about forward planning. Palace know Guehi’s exit is likely — bringing in a 20-year-old with Ligue 1 experience gives them time to develop him in the system. At €5–10m, it’s smart squad management.”
He added: “If Guehi does leave, Palace will still need a proven centre-back alongside Canvot. But this move gives them breathing room.”
Key Insights
- Palace agree deal with Toulouse for Jaydee Canvot.
- 2024/25 Ligue 1: 18 apps, 12 starts, 1.3 tackles, 2.9 clearances per 90.
- Seen as a potential Guehi successor, with captain linked to Liverpool.
- Final year of Guehi’s contract means Palace cannot risk losing him free.
- Canvot viewed as a long-term project with immediate squad depth value.
What’s Next for Palace?
Palace expect to finalise the deal with Toulouse in the next 48 hours, with Canvot likely unveiled before the weekend.
Attention then shifts back to Guehi. If Liverpool match the £45m asking price, Palace will face the challenge of balancing short-term defensive stability with their longer-term squad rebuild.
Is Canvot the right man to step up if Guehi leaves — or do Palace need another proven Premier League centre-back?

Young player, but Palace is good at recruiting these kind of players, and with Glasner as his manager I could see this working out very well tbh.
