Crystal Palace have been urged to make a late push for Charlie Cresswell despite Rennes reportedly agreeing personal terms with the Toulouse defender.
The 23-year-old appears to be moving closer to the Ligue 1 club, but former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness believes Palace can still change the outcome. Speaking to Football Insider, he described Cresswell as a “perfect” fit for the Eagles and backed them to win the race.
Palace backed to make late Cresswell move
Rennes currently have the advantage after reaching an agreement with the former England Under-21 international. Palace, however, remain interested and can also offer Europa League football.
Wyness believes the Eagles’ record of developing young players could prove decisive.

Cresswell has impressed since moving to Toulouse and is now attracting interest ahead of a possible summer transfer. Palace could have an opening if they decide to turn their interest into a concrete offer.
Cresswell tipped to follow Marc Guehi pathway
Wyness compared the potential move with Marc Guehi’s development at Selhurst Park. Guehi established himself as a leading Premier League defender during five years with Palace before earning a major move to Manchester City.
The former Everton executive believes Cresswell could follow a similar path.
“I do expect him to go forward and be like a Marc Guehi in that sense and become a top name,” Wyness said.
Rennes remain ahead, but Palace’s pathway to regular Premier League football could still give them a persuasive argument. The problem is time: with personal terms already agreed elsewhere, the Eagles may need to act quickly.
