West Ham United have received encouraging news regarding Crysencio Summerville after initial reports about the severity of his latest injury were questioned in the Netherlands.

The winger suffered a muscle problem over the weekend that sparked fears he could face another lengthy spell on the sidelines. However, Dutch outlet Voetbal Primeur now suggests those early reports may have overstated the situation.

Further medical tests are expected this week to determine the exact extent of the issue.

Crysencio Summerville injury update for West Ham

According to reports from the Netherlands, the injury sustained by Summerville appears less serious than originally feared.

Earlier reports from England suggested the 24-year-old could face an extended absence after picking up a hamstring problem. That news raised particular concern given the attacker missed several months last season with a similar injury.

Voetbal Primeur, however, claim those reports were “premature.”

Their information suggests the problem may instead be a less severe muscle issue in the calf rather than a serious hamstring setback.

Further examinations are planned to confirm the diagnosis.

Possible return against Aston Villa

Summerville is already working on his rehabilitation and hopes to return sooner rather than later.

The current target mentioned in the Dutch report is West Ham’s Premier League match against Aston Villa on March 22, although that timeline will depend on the results of the upcoming medical checks.
