Coventry City lead €8m Anthony Dennis race after positive talks

Coventry City are reportedly leading the race to sign Göztepe midfielder Anthony Dennis, although growing interest from the Bundesliga could threaten their position.

The newly promoted Premier League club have held positive talks over a move for the 21-year-old, who is valued at €8m by his Turkish club.

According to Footy-Africa, Coventry are currently the frontrunners following discussions over bringing Dennis to England. Göztepe chairman Rasmus Ankersen has also travelled to England for talks with Frank Lampard’s side.

However, several German clubs are now increasing their efforts to sign the Nigerian midfielder.

Dennis joined Göztepe’s youth setup in 2023 before breaking into the first team a year later. He has since become a regular and continued his development over the past two seasons.

The defensive midfielder played 2,474 minutes across 31 matches last season. His progress has attracted attention across Europe, with interest from Germany now intensifying.

RB Leipzig, Eintracht Frankfurt, Union Berlin and Mainz are all reportedly monitoring his situation.

Union Berlin and Mainz have tracked Dennis, while Leipzig and Frankfurt are emerging as more serious contenders. Their involvement could increase the pressure on Coventry to move quickly.

Galatasaray have also shown interest and are believed to have made direct contact with Göztepe.

Dennis and his representatives are expected to assess every offer carefully before making a final decision.

Regular playing time will be central to his choice. The midfielder wants a club where he can continue his development rather than simply secure the biggest move available.

That could work in Coventry’s favour if Lampard can offer him a clear role in the first team.

Any interested club must also meet Göztepe’s €8m valuation. Dennis is under contract until 2027, but with no renewal currently expected, the Turkish side are reportedly prepared to sell this summer.

Coventry remain in the strongest position after positive talks, but the growing list of rivals means the deal is far from complete.

Coventry can strengthen their position by convincing Dennis that he will receive regular Premier League football and meeting Göztepe’s €8m asking price.

However, with Bundesliga clubs intensifying their interest and Galatasaray also making contact, the Sky Blues may need to move quickly to avoid losing their advantage.
