According to Fabrizio RomanoChristopher Nkunku is joining AC Milan after a deal was verbally agreed with Chelsea. The fee will be €35m plus add-ons, with documents set to be prepared today.

Nkunku, who moved to Stamford Bridge in 2023, has struggled with injuries but still managed to impress when fit. He has now said “yes” to a five-year contract at San Siro, where he is expected to become one of the Rossoneri’s key attacking pieces.

At Chelsea, Nkunku earned a reported £195,000 per week. In Italy, his AC Milan deal is believed to be worth around €140,000–150,000 per week (£120,000–125,000), slightly less than his Premier League wages but supplemented with performance bonuses and add-ons in line with Milan’s wage structure.

Romano Confirms the Move

“Christopher Nkunku to AC Milan, here we go! Deal verbally agreed in principle between the clubs.” — Fabrizio Romano

The Italian giants have been pushing hard to strengthen their attack, and Nkunku’s versatility across forward positions is seen as a perfect fit.

Why AC Milan Want Nkunku

Milan have been seeking a creative forward who can operate between the lines and contribute goals. Nkunku fits that profile perfectly, offering flexibility across attacking midfield, false nine and second striker roles.

With Rafael Leão the focal point on the left, Nkunku is expected to slot in as an attacking midfielder or play alongside a central striker in Massimiliano Allegri’s system.

Nkunku’s contribution of 20 goal involvements in 48 games last season highlights his impact, particularly given his stop-start spell with injuries.

Analyst Verdict

FootballPlace analyst John William says this is a calculated move for both sides:

“For Chelsea, €35m recoups value on a player who, while talented, never quite had the run of fitness to establish himself. For Milan, it’s a smart signing — Nkunku is entering his peak and at wages lower than the Premier League level, he fits their structure.”

He added: “If Milan manage his fitness properly, he could be a bargain. His creativity and ability to carry the ball through tight spaces are exactly what Serie A games demand.”

Key Insights

  • Romano: Nkunku to AC Milan — Here we go!
  • €35m fee with add-ons agreed between Chelsea and Milan.
  • Five-year deal signed, wages around £120k per week at Milan.
  • Nkunku had 15 goals + 5 assists in 48 games for Chelsea last season.

What’s Next?

Nkunku will undergo his medical and finalise documents before the weekend. Milan expect to announce him before their upcoming Serie A clash, with hopes he will be registered in time for early September fixtures.

For Chelsea, Nkunku’s exit opens up space in the squad and wage budget — potentially freeing them to chase a late attacking addition of their own before deadline day.

Is this the fresh start Nkunku needs to revive his career — and will Chelsea regret letting him leave at €35m?
