Bild reports Bayern Munich could move for Chelsea’s Christopher Nkunku following Kingsley Coman’s departure.

Bayern Munich are once again considering a move for Christopher Nkunku after Kingsley Coman left the club, according to Bild.

Nkunku, 27, has been on Bayern’s radar for months, and Coman’s exit has brought the Chelsea attacker back into focus as a potential replacement. The French international joined Chelsea from RB Leipzig in 2023 for €60m, but injuries and inconsistent form have prevented him from hitting the heights he achieved in the Bundesliga. He is currently earning around £195,000 per week at Stamford Bridge, a wage Bayern would need to match or come close to in any deal.

Bayern’s Valuation vs Chelsea’s Asking Price

Chelsea are believed to want around £60m (€70m) to part with Nkunku this summer. However, Bayern’s interest comes with a lower valuation — they are reportedly only willing to pay £40m (€47m).

Such a gap could prove a stumbling block unless Chelsea are willing to negotiate, particularly as Bayern explore other wide attacking options in the market.

Nkunku’s Bundesliga Pedigree

Before his move to Stamford Bridge, Nkunku was one of the Bundesliga’s most prolific attackers, scoring 35 goals and providing 20 assists across his final two seasons at RB Leipzig. Bayern see his ability to play as a winger, second striker or attacking midfielder as ideal for replacing Coman’s versatility.

Christopher Nkunku on His Time in England

Since joining Chelsea in 2023, Nkunku has endured a stop-start spell in England. Long-term injuries and system changes have limited his impact, but the Frenchman insists he still has much to offer at the top level.

That determination is one of the reasons Bayern believe he could rediscover his Bundesliga form at the Allianz Arena, especially in a team built to play on the front foot.

Christopher Nkunku 2024/25 Stats

This season, Nkunku made 27 Premier League appearances (only 9 starts), scoring 3 goals and registering 2 assists, contributing to 5 direct goal involvements—averaging a goal involvement of 0.49 per 90 minutes

Here’s a breakdown of his offensive output:

Stat (2024/25) Christopher Nkunku
Appearances (Premier League) 27
Goals 3
Assists 2
Shots on Target (per 90) 1.19
Chances Created (Key Passes per 90) 1.38

Analyst Verdict

For Bayern, Nkunku represents a proven Bundesliga match-winner — if he can stay fit. The key sticking point will be Chelsea’s valuation, as the German champions rarely overpay for players returning from less successful stints abroad.

Key Insights

  • Bayern revisit Nkunku move after Coman departure.
  • Chelsea value him at £60m; Bayern willing to pay £40m.
  • Player starred in Bundesliga with RB Leipzig.
  • Injuries have hindered his form at Chelsea.

What’s Next

Bayern are expected to make an initial approach to Chelsea this week, with early conversations likely to focus on narrowing the £20m gap between the clubs’ valuations. Chelsea’s stance remains firm for now, but Bayern could test their resolve with structured payments or performance-related add-ons to bring the fee closer to their preferred figure.

Nkunku’s openness to a return to Germany could also work in Bayern’s favour, especially given his past success in the Bundesliga. However, the Bavarians are keeping other winger options in mind should talks stall — and any deal may hinge on whether Chelsea secure their own attacking reinforcement before letting him leave.

If progress is made quickly, Bayern could push to have Nkunku available before the end of August, giving him the chance to debut in one of their early-season Bundesliga fixtures.

Should Bayern meet Chelsea’s £60m asking price for Nkunku — or hold firm at £40m?

Take that 40M. There's little to know clubs that can afford his weekly wages, so take the deal before we stick around with him.
