Chelsea have reached a full agreement to sign Liam Delap from Ipswich Town, triggering the striker’s £30million release clause as they fend off competition from Manchester United, Newcastle United, and Everton. The 22-year-old is set to join the Europa Conference League winners, linking up again with Enzo Maresca and Cole Palmer, both of whom he worked with at Manchester City.
Despite Ipswich’s relegation from the Premier League, Delap’s breakthrough season caught the attention of several top clubs, with the young striker scoring 12 goals in the 2024–25 campaign. Chelsea’s Champions League qualification and clear project under Maresca appear to have sealed the deal, beating rivals to Delap’s signature.
Why Chelsea Wanted Liam Delap
Chelsea have been eyeing a young, physical striker to complement their attacking options. Delap’s blend of strength, aerial ability, and clinical finishing impressed the Blues’ hierarchy, especially after his performances for Ipswich in a struggling side. The 22-year-old’s familiarity with Maresca’s system and Cole Palmer is also seen as a key factor in the club’s strategy.
“Delap’s hunger and experience at such a young age make him a perfect fit for our project,” said a Chelsea source.

He's similar to Jackson but much better first touch and finishing is better. Happy to have him, I do think we can sell Jackson now and try to get Osimhen.
