Trevoh Chalobah has called on Chelsea’s squad to “stick together” as they look to halt a four-match winless run and regain momentum ahead of this weekend’s match at Stamford Bridge against Everton. The defender spoke to club media after the 2–1 defeat at Atalanta, a result that damaged Chelsea’s hopes of securing an automatic top-eight position in the Champions League league phase.
Chelsea had taken the lead in Bergamo through João Pedro’s first-half strike, but goals from Gianluca Scamacca and Charles De Ketelaere turned the match around, leaving Enzo Maresca’s side frustrated and slipping further down the table. With injuries, fatigue and rhythm issues all contributing to a stuttering spell, Chalobah stressed that this is the moment the squad must close ranks.
“It’s easy to be together when you’re winning,” he said. “These are the times when you need to come together as a team. We’ve been in this situation before — every team has — so we need to focus on the next game. It’s another opportunity to get a result.”
Chelsea regroup after four-game winless stretch
Chelsea’s recent run includes defeats to Leeds and Atalanta, plus a goalless draw with Bournemouth. The only point of encouragement in the sequence was a spirited draw with Premier League leaders Arsenal, where Chelsea outplayed their opponents despite going down to ten men.
Reflecting on the loss in Italy, Chalobah admitted the team failed to maintain control after half-time.
“They didn’t really cause us too many problems. At 1–0, in the first 10 to 15 minutes of the second half, it’s important to stay in the game. They scored and it put us on the back foot, and in the second half we didn’t really get going.”
Despite the disappointment, Chalobah felt the first half displayed some of Chelsea’s trademark composure.
“When you come to a stadium with an intense crowd, it’s important to quieten them. I thought we did that in the first half.”
Bright moment: Acheampong’s standout display
One positive from the night was the performance of Josh Acheampong, who impressed in his first Chelsea start since late October. Chalobah was quick to praise the academy graduate:
“Josh did really well. He hadn’t played for a while and he stepped in really well.”
Acheampong’s composure and athleticism offered Chelsea stability at key moments, and his performance will give Maresca something to consider as the squad navigates a demanding December schedule.

Chalobah’s numbers reflect a composed defensive performance despite the final result. His 95% pass accuracy shows how reliably he circulated possession, while his aerial dominance ensured Chelsea resisted Atalanta’s direct moments. The limited defensive actions required also indicate that Atalanta struggled to break Chelsea down until the decisive late stages.
Leadership emerging in difficult moments
In our view, Chalobah’s message highlights something Chelsea have lacked at times this season: vocal leadership during turbulent spells. Having come through several periods of transition at the club, the defender understands the importance of stability when results dip.
Chelsea’s underlying performances have not been catastrophic, but lapses in concentration and lack of incision in attack have turned winnable moments into dropped points. Chalobah’s call for unity is a timely reminder that turning form around often begins with mentality rather than tactics alone.
There is also an important nuance here. While the defeat was damaging in the Champions League context, Chelsea’s structure is far clearer under Maresca than results currently suggest. The challenge is consistency — and ensuring that setbacks don’t erode confidence.
Why Everton comes at a pivotal moment
Everton at home offers both risk and opportunity. Chelsea are under pressure, but a strong performance could reset momentum instantly. The defensive discipline shown in the first half against Atalanta will be essential, as will improved control after transitions — an area that hurt them in Bergamo.
With Acheampong emerging, Chalobah showing authority, and key attackers returning, this fixture may arrive at the right time for Chelsea to reassert themselves domestically.

One of the fewest players that had a good game. In shock about Enzo, Unc Tosin, Cucu, Gittens - did I forgot someone? Chelsea lack speed whenever they’ve the bal, it takes way too long to play around faster. I do think they’ll win on Saturday against Everton tbh. Won’t be easy because Moyes will play with a low block and if one team struggles to play against teams with lowblocks than it’s Chelsea.
