Bryan Mbeumo says he sees similarities between his current manager at Manchester United, Ruben Amorim, and his former boss Thomas Frank at Brentford. The Cameroon international, who joined United in a £71m summer move, admitted that adapting to a new environment has been a challenge but one he is relishing.

Mbeumo had played under Frank for his entire six-year spell in English football, helping take Brentford from the Championship into the Premier League. Now, as he prepares to face his former club for the first time, he says Amorim’s methods are already bringing out the best in him.

“Really good. I’ve found some similarities between them,” Mbeumo told club media. “He always tries to do training in a fun way and I think this is really important – to get some fun at football – because it makes life more enjoyable. A new manager is a challenge for me, but I like it. The training sessions are intense and he wants us to do a lot, big efforts, and that can only help us be ready on the pitch.”

Mbeumo’s Manchester United start

The 25-year-old winger has made a strong start to life at Old Trafford, scoring two goals and quickly becoming a key figure in Amorim’s attacking setup. His versatility, intensity and direct style have already made him popular among supporters and teammates alike.

He credits the warm welcome he received in Manchester as a big factor in his adaptation:

“The team-mates and staff and everyone at Carrington are lovely people, so you really want to come and work here every day. Changing city or club always needs time, but everyone helped me a lot. It’s a big club – everything about it – and I’m really happy.” — Bryan Mbeumo

Life after Brentford and cultural adjustments

Reflecting on his journey, Mbeumo admitted that moving to Brentford from Troyes in 2019 came with its own cultural challenges.

“The culture is obviously different, so it was a big change, and the food as well! The porridge was different. I’d never had it before I came here. Do I have it every morning now? No!” he joked.

He also compared the differences between French and English football: Ligue 2, he said, is “more tactical,” while the Championship was “more physical and with intensity.” Now, in the Premier League, he finds the pace and pressure “even more intense.”

His early contributions suggest Amorim will build much of United’s right-sided play around him this season.

Analyst Verdict

FootballPlace analyst John William believes Mbeumo’s seamless adaptation shows why United were willing to pay big money:

“Mbeumo offers intensity, versatility and end product. The fact he already feels similarities between Amorim and Frank is telling — both focus on intensity, structure and enjoyable training environments. For United, Mbeumo looks like the type of signing who can deliver consistently over several seasons.”

He added: “His return to face Brentford will be emotional, but it also highlights how far he has come since arriving from France six years ago. Amorim will hope he thrives on that narrative.”

Long-term, Amorim will expect his big summer signing to continue adding goals and assists to United’s attack. If Mbeumo maintains his early form, he could become one of the most influential wingers in the Premier League this season.
