Background: Cunha Chase Forces Forest’s Hand
As the race for Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Matheus Cunha intensifies—with Manchester United leading the pack—Nottingham Forest find themselves plotting Plan B. Despite exploratory talks over a £62.5 million bid for Cunha, Fabrizio Romano’s latest updates suggest a deal is close at Old Trafford. That has opened the door for Forest to pursue a surprise alternative: Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford.
Why Bryan Mbeumo?
Bryan Mbeumo has enjoyed a standout 2024–25 season, netting 18 Premier League goals—two more than Cunha’s 16. His pace, direct dribbling and clinical finishing make him “incredible,” according to reporter Dom Smith, while Brentford manager Thomas Frank labelled him “unplayable” after a man-of-the-match display in December.
“Mbeumo’s ability to break lines and finish chances makes him perfect for a counter-attacking side like Nottingham Forest.” — Danny Higginbotham, Former Manchester United Defender
Forest believe that, even at a £50 million valuation, investing in Mbeumo could deliver immediate returns—and the promise of European football next season adds further allure.

What’s Next for Forest?
Nottingham Forest must act fast. A formal approach for Bryan Mbeumo would involve negotiating with Brentford, who are unlikely to accept anything below £50 million. If Forest secure Europa Conference League football, that European promise could be the decisive factor swaying Mbeumo’s choice.
Do you think Bryan Mbeumo is the right £50m signing for Nottingham Forest, or should they keep chasing Matheus Cunha? Let us know in the comments!

I don't think NFFC can afford him. Despite that, he's better than Cunha for sure.
