Brentford have made their move for long-term target Joey Veerman, with Voetbal International confirming on Friday that PSV Eindhoven have received a €30m bid for the midfielder.

The 26-year-old Dutch international, linked with a Premier League switch for much of the summer, is now the subject of Brentford’s deadline push as Keith Andrews looks to reinforce his midfield before Monday’s transfer deadline. PSV are understood to be reluctant sellers given the late stage of the market and the departures of Johan Bakayoko, Noa Lang and Malik Tillman earlier in the summer.

Veerman, however, is open to a Premier League move and could follow in the footsteps of fellow Dutchman Sepp van den Berg, already at Brentford, while Jordan Henderson also joined this summer from Ajax on a free. With PSV facing limited time to secure a replacement, the outcome now hinges on whether the Eredivisie side are willing to cash in.

Why Brentford Want Veerman Now

Brentford’s midfield has undergone change this summer. Bryan Mbeumo’s sale and Yoane Wissa’s Newcastle push have left Andrews needing creativity and control in central areas. Veerman, capped 16 times by the Netherlands, offers range of passing and composure under pressure — qualities Brentford view as critical to stabilising their shape.

The Bees have already raided Feyenoord this summer, spending £20m on Antoni Milambo. With Veerman, they aim to add both experience and technical quality to their midfield spine.

PSV’s Dilemma

PSV CEO and sporting director are understood to be split on sanctioning a sale at this stage. While the offer is attractive financially, the lack of available alternatives so close to the Dutch deadline (24 hours later than England) complicates matters.

“Brentford’s interest is real and the bid has arrived — PSV are now considering it carefully with just days to go.” — Voetbal International

For PSV, losing Veerman on top of Bakayoko, Lang and Tillman would mark a significant midfield exodus, testing Peter Bosz’s ability to rebuild quickly.

The stats highlight why Brentford view Veerman as a transformative signing. His 12 assists and 68 chances created underline his ability to dictate tempo and carve openings — something Andrews’ side lack.

Analyst Verdict – John William

FootballPlace analyst John William believes Veerman could be the “statement” signing Brentford need:

“Veerman has the creativity to elevate Brentford’s midfield. He’s press-resistant, technically sharp, and has the vision to unlock low blocks. For €30m, he’s exactly the type of player the Bees should be targeting to bridge the gap to mid-table safety.”

William added: “The challenge is PSV’s position. They’ve already lost three starters. Selling Veerman now, without cover, risks destabilising their entire season. It’s a classic deadline-day dilemma.”

Key Insights

  • Brentford submit €30m bid for PSV’s Joey Veerman.
  • PSV reluctant but considering due to financial value.
  • 16-cap Dutch international open to Premier League move.
  • Veerman created 68 chances + 12 assists last season.
  • PSV deadline closes 24 hours later than England’s — time is tight.

What’s Next?

Talks between Brentford and PSV are ongoing, with the Dutch side expected to deliver a final decision this weekend. Andrews is pushing hard for Veerman as a priority signing, though Brentford may also explore alternative midfielders if PSV dig their heels in.

For Veerman, the Premier League dream remains alive. With Monday night’s 7pm BST deadline looming in England, and the Dutch window closing 24 hours later, this transfer could go down to the very last day.

Should Brentford hold out for Veerman at €30m, or pivot to cheaper options before the deadline?

A very good player that could setup any attackers and he contributes defensively as well.
